Sorry iphone users.
Did you know that if your android phone has an IR bluster like Samsung Galaxy S5 or likewise, you already have a multi camera free shutter remote control?

It's IR blaster, not bluster.

Not only can you control a camera, but the IR smartphones can act as a remote for many things such as a TV (if you can find an app)

Yep recently got a system upgrade on my Galaxy Note 3, with this on it, including the software for my TV and Sky+ Satellite box. Seems to work Ok too, although the software doesn't have all the buttons that the actual remote has, which can be an issue at times. Will have to have a look at the above and give it a go with my 50D.

...give it a go with my 50D.

The xxD series cameras do not have IR receivers to trigger the shutter. I think this feature is most common in the Rebel line and there is some discussion the 5D3 may have the feature.
