Playing the kitchen drum set... this lens gives good isolation even if it is "only" f/1.8:

For guys using this lens on actions shots, what setting are u using? ap/ss/and focus?

i tried taking shots of my daughter on a swing today at 2.0. ss-1/1600 and the are surprisingly blurred.

With a very small window of accuracy at f/2, any lens will have difficulty keeping up with the back and forth of a swing if you try and make it track continually. It is easier to pre-focus at the top of the arc and then fire off when they swing in to the focus zone.

You will probably have better luck shooting at f/2.8 or even f/4.

I was shooting some track and field (getting the whole body in the frame) and they looked like crap at such high aperture. If the shoe was in focus, the face was not.. very narrow DOF to work with. Shooting at f/4 (like with my razor sharp 70-200) got better results.
