I have never noticed any major CA from my shots from this lens. Granted I haven't used it a ton, but what sort of conditions or settings should I avoid to avoid the CA? Anyone have examples of how bad it can be?

I find it hard to avoid it, if it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen.
It's pretty easy to clean up in PS afterwards though. (:

usually there is no purple in the picture, so if it's of the purple kind, slide the purple/magenta slider to the left on saturation in Lightroom until it's gone.

Same with green

Yep yep, I recently picked this lens up, and was a bit surprised by the amount of purple fringing in high contrast areas...strange thing also - sometimes it wasn't there, and sometimes loads. just gotta get the exposure bang on I've found now. Failing that, easy fix is slide down the purple channel (as long as it doesn't effect the rest of the colour in the image).

Or just shoot RAW and use Adobe Camera RAW to process, and work with the Chromatic Aberration sliders in the Lens Corrections settings.

When I first got the lens, I tried to use the CA sliders but in lightroom, which is similar to ACR right? It didnt' work for me. But again, only in lightroom, not ACR

^ not all purple fringing can be attributed to chromatic aberration....I think...

I havn't got a problem with CA, but I do pick up purple fringing now and then in really high contrast area, usually when I'm clipping the right of the histogram.

(which I can easily sort out via the purple slider in lightroom).

Thats why I say, best to get exposure bang on with this lens.

I'm seriously thinking of getting this lens. How does the build quality compare to the 17-40L or 70-200L? All I've owned was those two and the 50mm 1.8 which felt like a toy. Also, can I see some 100% crops?
