I'm seriously thinking of getting this lens. How does the build quality compare to the 17-40L or 70-200L? All I've owned was those two and the 50mm 1.8 which felt like a toy. Also, can I see some 100% crops?

It sits inbetween the L glass and the 50 1.8. The mount is metal and the body has some weight to it but it is not L build quality. Bear in mind though you are not paying L prices.
The optics truly are stunning though, this is the lens that has made me move to all prime lenses. Selling my Tamron and replacing it with a UWA and a 50mm 1.4.

To me it feels just as good to use, and as good physical quality, as my 70-200 f/4L. In terms of image quality, well, it's the one I turn to out of all my lenses when I simply need sharpness, at f/5.6 nothing comes close to it from my line up, keeps giving me ideas of selling my zooms as well and getting more primes.

I received my lens last Thursday and have had little time to spend with it. I took some photos the first night, and found it to be remarkably heavy for its physical size. Image quality seemed fine. This morning I had a few minutes before my wife, daughter, and I were stepping out. I grabbed the camera et al and took a few simple portrait shots of our daughter. This was done with all natural lighting with the lens fully open at f/1.8. Shutter was 1/50s and ISO was 800. Enjoy!

At first glance, I totally thought you just rotated the shot counterclockwise, until I saw the shelf on the ground. Sweet shot! :D

Grand kids were here for a few days. These were taken by the St Augustine Light House.
