@Katalyst - nicely done:)
- hows the 85mm on your 50d? I have a 50d as well and have been going back and worth between the 50 1.4 or the 85mm. I currently have a sigma 30mm.

One more thing, which is absolutely more useful than me posting shots and what not... I see you have the 15-85, now I don't know what you had in mind for either the 50mm or 85mm but let's assume you want to do shoulder/head -shots for now. Set your 15-85 to both focal lenghts and see what perspective you like best, based on that it's easier to make a choice!

Thank you!
Especially when it comes of a FF camera the 85 on my 50D seems exceptionally long, I really prefer it on a full frame but it's really good on a crop too! I don't have the 50 1.4 but a friend of mine does, and I prefer the build quality of the 85 1.8... For portraits like these I like the 85, I've done some full portraits with her too (seen below) which I found awkward with a lens that behaves as long as it does, your choice! :D

cool I appreaciate your feedback:)

DITTO! Yes I have done exactly that! i've had my 15-85 on and switching it back and forth haha;) however its been in the house so I haven't really gotten a chance to check it out outdoors so I have more room. I'm going to do that this weekend.

i have been contemplating selling the 15-85 to pick up either the 85 or 50 but the 15-85 is a really good lens and I don't want to sell it and then miss the ability to zoom or say "i wish i still had that" lol

Just a question for all the 85 1.8 owners, now i know this is a great lens but why do i see so many being sold, if its so good, maybe upgrade? Thanks

Have to ask those selling but my guess is that most have found the focal length a little too long for portraits or realize that single person portraits are not their most shot images. Next group would be moving up to the Sigma 1.4 for about 2x the price and then finally a small portion moving up the 1.2 for about 5x the price.

Just my thoughts.

John

Since I had been eyeing this lens for a while, I browsed a lot of classifieds for this lens. Majority of the sellers were getting rid of it because they were not using this lens (esp. because of the FL).
