Sliding the "clarity" slide in Lightroom 3 will give a similar effect in case you don't own Alien Skin software!

There is no ''clarity slide'' in Alien Skin, it's in ACR which is similar to L3. I use Alien Skin for tones, colors, vignette, grain, sharpness, blur etc.

AS mentioned before, lighting is key, PP is also important, and knowing your camera of course.

Sure, but you can fade the effect. I seldom use the presets on 100% opacity. Keep on using it, needs time to know how it works best for you.

Here's some more Alien Skin processing from the B&W presets

Yeah i rarely use it at 100% opacity, I tend to do all my retouching, and color corrections first, then add an alien skin filter to give it that extra little pop

LOL, love that one too... Never thought about trying to mimic a fairytale in a photograph before.

Some of your shots have a sort of soft, dreamy effect to them... If you turn down the clarity in Lightroom you'll get that softness as well!

Exactly, my point was I didn't achieve this effect with Alien Skin, I did it by turning down the clarity in Adobe Camera Raw, which is the same as in Lightroom. I really like the clarity slide, works great on women's faces.
