I've had this lens for over a year - and I have never noticed the problem. I do understand and see what you mean. I've just never had a problem with it. I use this lens for portraits only, so I suppose it's not as high contrast as some subjects I've seen here. Also, I never use the lens wide open - normally I use it at f2.0-2.8.

Good luck. It is an awesome lens.

Bohdank: Although the images themselves are good, I do see hints in them too.

I just posted a thread with samples and crops: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1101750

I am not an OCD pixel peeper when it comes to everyday shots, but I just want to get an opinion on what an accepted level of CA/PF on this lens is, while I still have the time to replace it.

Thanks!

The first shot. You have to keep in mind that white cloth is rarely white. Brighteners are used in the dyes so they often show up with a blue tint in images. The hair thing. The whole head scarf has a slight blue tinge to it and it's just more pronounced in the small part that is not in direct sun (shade).

You are right about the second one. The small area that is blown out. I think if anything, the shots show that the lens can handle quite a bit of "high" contrast. Just watch your exposure.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Yes. I'll have to be careful. All in all it doesn't seem like a deal breaker to me. I'm just not used to so much of it. I just wanted to check with everyone whether this level of CA is normal for this lens.

I went out today to do some street candids but shooting only at f/1.8. Set camera to Av and AI Servo.. I got very few bloopers,, this lens nailed focus time after time.

BTW,, 0 AF Micro adjustment.

Nice shot powerslave...I think you are going to love this lens. I just got back from a 2 hour hike in the foothills with mine and the dog. If anything is decent I'll post. Remember (and you prob know this) that you don't have to run around shooting everything wide open. Creative control of DOF makes for outstanding photographs. Many times the widest aperture is not needed for this, allowing you to avoid the inevitable purple fringing. Show us some more of your stuff. Fall colors should be coming in nicely over there in NC!!

Yes! Definitely not the one to shoot each shot wide open. The previous shot itself is at f/2.8.

I'm just about to step out on a nice trip/hike through the hills. Fully loaded and carrying a flash gun just cause it's a little cloudy out today. Should make for good dramatic skies.. let's see what the next few hours hold. :)

Post up yours before the work week creep right in!

I did, then i got a 12% coupon in my email for being a best buy reward zone silver member.. brought price down to $2200.. so i went bought it again three days later..

i can tell already that this is one that i will be learning for a loooong time.. controls are so different from the rebels that i had... read manual 2x and its still pretty complicated.. i'm sure i'll be ok once i start tweaking some of the settings and stuff..

Should have gone out earlier with better (lower) light. All shots of the pup were lame.
