Maybe the Sigma then?
You know, while I have enjoyed my sigma's (and continue to do so) and the 85 looks beautiful, it is still a bit pricey and I really feel the canon 85 1.8 is a real bang for the buck. Just posted in the WTB forum!

The 1.8 is a steal for 300ish bucks. The next big money I'm spending is for the 35L .That's it, I'm putting up a WTB add, so if anyone can help me out let me know. Hope to see ya soon with some pics. 35L is on the list. Yeah, as much as i want to own an 85Lii, i can't imagine dropping the funds for one.. at least not at this point. Especially how well the 85 1.8 performs, it's a bargain. I'm just itching to upgrade to either the sigma 85 1.4 but worried about the siggy lotto again. I agree. I have owned all 3. The canon is sweet but I still can't decide as my sigma was quite good. Both are equally as sharp IMHO. I think the question is do you need 1.2 or snappy focus? The 85L focuses slow but is amazing! Dunno both are great. 5d3 & Lens CoLLector

The 35L (or any 35mm on full frame) is quite a joy to use, I will say that it is a great focal length to work with if you want something slightly wider than a standard 50mm. -Abram-

It seriously one of the finest lenses Canon makes today. That being said I highly doubt I ever see myself buying one. (Renting sure, for specific shoots). The 1.8 version focuses SO much faster it's not even funny. It's also a fraction of the size / weight / cost of the 85L so it is much easier to run around with. -Abram-

The trio of the 35L / 85 1.8 / 135L will deliver outstanding image quality and pack into a nice small bag. With the money you saved from not purchasing the 85L you could purchase a second camera body easily. So, to sum it up, if you need f/1.2-1.4 for a specific reason then you will absolutely not be even the slightest bit disappointed by the 85LII, but if you are ok with 1.8 as a max aperture (like me) you will also be perfectly happy with the 85 1.8 Thanks for this post. Got a line on a 85 1.8 and am heading inthe direction of the prime trio you describe! It might be a little while on the 35L though. Cory

LeeRatters Cream of the Crop More info | I've toyed over selling mine before.... I much prefer 50mm to 85mm & the 50mm gets much much more use. I then bought a cheap Sigma 70-200/2.8 a few weeks back for the occasional motorsport/track days so need to release funds....
