I feel your pain, shot a toddler for the first time with my 85mm the other week. Got about 2 keepers

I shot a lot of action shots this weekend and I found that using the back focus button helped me with keepers. I had just changed it recently, and found that half pressing was doing a lot of focus hunting. With the back button focus, I was able to get a lot better keep/lose ratio.

question:

does anyone use this for sports at all?

given it's a prime, i'd like this for the upcoming baseball season.

I've used it quite a bit for basketball, not much for baseball and softball. I might just have to though. Great lens!

Just picked up my copy yesterday evening! I can't wait to try it out; hopefully this weekend. I was debating whether or not to get a UV filter for it....I think it's the "new lens jitters". Definitely want to get a hood though.

You dont need a UV filter. You should however get a hood for it.

I fought my jitters and didn't get a UV filter. I do need a hood though...totally agree.

Unfortunately the hood options for this lens suck. The OEM is a mediocre design for the money.

Really? I thought about saving some $$ and getting a 3rd party hood off eBay.
