Taken this morning at 7am I may have missed the very beginning, it was listed as being at mag -7.2
Canon 450D Tokina 11-16 @ f2.8 ISO 100 15 sec

Uploading this has degraded the quality, is there a way to reduce this? Thanks

Still a nice shot Jimmy . It's best if you have a Flickr account (free one) load it there then post here . At Flickr you can upload high quality and larger images to show . One thing tho i might add is use a bigger lens for capturing IFs' . The smallest i'll use is my 18-55mm , usually adjusted big enough to capture just one constellation that is close to where the IF will be flaring . In the past i have seen some really nice shots taken with a 100mm and 200mm lens but i'm sure they were piggyback mounted on a scope or tracking unit . IF's are fun to watch and capture . Been a while since i been looking tho cause my city is really getting LP's nowadays :( .

Thanks, using a longer FL seems like it would be hit and miss to capture the flare in the FOV. 100mm or 200mm would be by luck only, unless you had a computer controlled mount, or perhaps I'm overlooking something? I just finished another shot using my 18-55 at ~24mm and caught half of it in the frame, maybe my estimation of where it'll appear above the horizon (in degrees)isn't so good. ???

As for display quality, process and upload an image at the size you wish to post on the forum, 1024X689 as in your picture above. That way Flickr doesn't enlarge or reduce the image (affecting quality) and the EXIF data, if saved with the picture, is preserved.

True it is harder to capture without a tracking mount . What I do when I try capturing one is I usually setup oh maybe 10 minutes early and find the spot where it's suppose to flare and take a few practice shots for setting adjustments . Then when I'm ready i'll leave the camera on , and I use a remote to trigger the shutter . Then I watch the general area I know the satellites is coming from and usually if you watch real close you can spot it coming ahead of time then I rush to the camera an get ready to trip it . Me and my wife both usually watch for it ahead of time to be ready .
