Whats you're budget? I'm assuming you want something in EF mount and not EFS so you could use it on your 1DII? Just for daytime landscapes or will you shoot nightscapes as well?

I think the most cost effective way to get into UWA is the new efs 10-18mm IS.

You already have a wide angle in the 28 1.8 so I'm guessing you want an ultra wide. Your problem is that the best answer for your 40D is an EF-S lens like the 10-22 but that wouldn't work on the 1 series.

which body are you looking to shoot with, and how much money are you looking to spend?

a sigma 10-20mm would be ultra wide on your 40D...and on the 1D would supposedly work with little vignette from 12mm upward, although i'm sure the corners would be a bit soft

the cheapest way would be a 17-35, There is a tamron version in the for sale section. I had one and loved it!

Well I am glade you are one of the young ones here because I am almost as old as dirt.

What is your budget ?
I am not sure a UWA is the way to go on Landscape, I also own T3i and I have a EF-S 10-22 mm lens,
And hands down my 5Dmk 2 with a TSE 17mm f4 L lens is much much nicer.
Are you willing to pack a tripod when using this lens for landscape or do you prefer not to pack a tripod.

I use a TSE 17mm f4 L lens and a TSE 24mm MK 1 L lens.
You need to know these lenses perform the best on a tripod and none of the TSE lenses have AF.

Anyway if you have about 2700.00 bucks you can get into a TSE 17mm with some filters.
I picked up my TSE 24mm MK 1 for right around 1k used.

Most people can not afford that much money, but do yourself a favor what ever lens you do decide to get post it on here and ask some of the members who have that lens post some of there pictures and there thoughts of the lens, before you pull the trigger.

If you decide to buy a EF-S10- 22mm UWA lens contact me because I have a new one that I am thinking of selling, I used this lens for a couple of days.
So its not knew just damn near new.

Ps I bought allot of my photography equipment out of this forums wanted for sale section with out any problems.
Just don't do pay pal as a gift............... its fraud

Good luck
Farmer

Thank you all for the replys.
Now for landscapes would i better off using the 40d over the 1dii or vise versa??

Should I look into getting an ef over a efs?

Choice of camera is up to you.

Also, you never replied to anyone when asked about your budget. Hard for them to give you guidance without knowing what you're working with financially.

Heya,

Just a thought, but landscape can be done at any focal length. It's not exclusive to landscape to use wide angle. Your 28mm and 40mm and 70-200 are excellent landscape lenses.

That said, if you want ultrawide, go ultrawide, and embrace the distortion.

Very best,

That limits your options considerably as the crop factor works against you. The 17-40 is a good wide angle but won't be as wide on the crop body.
