Recommend a decent, not expensive, Microphone for 70D

I am looking to improve on (if possible) the audio quality of video's I am taking with my 70D. These are NOT professional level videos, these are videos mostly of just my kids at school concerts (orchestra, choir) that I would like to just get better quality audio recordings.

I am not having any issues with the 70D camera built in microphone (other than some wind noise or chatter that happens closer to the camera than the performance on stage), but I was wondering if there was a microphone that could be attached that would kick it up a notch on audio quality.

My budget is 100.00.

Rode and Sennheiser are good brands. I had the Rode and now have a more advanced Sennheiser. Please decide in advance whether you want the microphone in stereo or mono and then buy. This is what I had http://www.rodemic.com​/microphones/videomicp​ro
Senneheiser also has something equivalent.
If you foresee a lot of windy recording situations make sure you get the "Deadcat" wind shield.
If you want to google the subject, these are called shotgun microphones.

This is what I have on my 70D, works fine for me. I just need to eliminate some noise in PP but overall it's good. Pro editions are better though.

I took the advice of a friend who's a BBC sound engineer. He reckoned the Rode and the Senneiser MKE400 were of equal quality, but the latter having a better build. I've had no complaints so far when bolting it onto a 5D II.

Thanks for the input. I have reading to do. Are there any sites/youtube's where the canon 70d microphone is compared to one of these external mics? I sure would like to hear how much the difference would be between Internal Mic vs External Mic at this price point. I am searching but not finding anything yet.

The closer you can get your mic to the stage, the better sound you will get (and less audience noise). You will certainly get better audio from a shotgun mic, but should get even better audio by using a portable recorder, sticking it near the stage, and syncing audio in post. You could even use the built in mic as a secondary audio to enhance the stage mic.

Just a little food for thought.
