Both are good, which one do you all have and why? It seems that everyone uses the 1.4. I just received my EF 2 II and will put it to work in the next few days. Just wanted to know.

TIA,

Lynn

I don't use either but I think the x1.4 is better/more popular with those long slow lenses because the x2 has a bigger fstop effect.

I suspect it depends more on the quality of the lens you have used it with. Good zooms and most primes will probably be fine with the 1.4X but only the sharpest primes will hold up well with a 2X.

Acording to some test I have seen the recommendation even with sharp primes is to stop down from max ap at least 1 stop for 1.4X and 2 stop for 2X.

I would be interested to here how people get on with the 2X on the 200/2.8L.

Thanks to both of you. I plan on using it on my 70-200L F2.8 and the 100-400L F4.5 only. I'll give it a go.

Regards,

Lynn

I have both. The 1.4 on my 300f/4L IS is terrific.
I just got the 300f/2.8L IS and the 2x. I've only had a chance to take some quick test shots with this combo (lousy weather since I got it-figures heh heh), but those shots looked great.
I've also seen shots posted by others, and they were beautiful.

From the MTF data the 300/2.8 is a very very sharp lens. Canon show the MTF for the two teleconvertors for compatible lenses in the Eyes of EOS book. The 300/2.8 holds up to the 2X much better than most.

So it looks like your experience is in line with this.
