Hi everyone would really like some advice please :)
I have 7d sigma 17-70 tameron 28-75 2.8 Canon 50 1.8.
I am not a prorofessional but take a lot of photos for my sons shows ballet bad lighting. I love natural light low light . I also take a lot of natural light baby photos for friends.
I really need two cameras for the shows often borrow friends 5d and put my 50 1.8 on it.
I was thinking the new 7d?

You'll get better result with a 6D in that lousy light. Couple it with fast prime (100 f/2?) and you'll be amazed.

If you need speed and reach, go for the new 7D II
I think a 70-200 f2.8 non-IS would work very well wide open.
The IS is superior but more expensive.
If speed is less important, I find the 6D to handle low light just fine up to ISO 3200
Beyond that, it can be a simple fix with Lightroom and plugins.

Tolerance is everything. I have no problem using a 60D at 6400. My 6D is very useable at 25,600. Individual preference, I suppose.

Thank you :) for advice
I use high shutter speed and let iso do what it likes I remove noise in LR.

If noise from the 7D is not something that is truly causing issue for you, I don;t think getting the new 7D II will benefit you in any real way.
I had the T4i before getting the 6D. With my 50 f1.4 I was often at iso 6400 wide open.
I was really into street photography and wants less noise. THe FF was an added bonus.
The change did not disappoint me. While both cameras extremely high ISO values, the resulting images were very different. I like my fast primes, but also enjoy stopping them down and raising the ISO as needed.
Based on my own use, I recommend the 6D if ISO noise is an issue.
Also keeping the f2.8 zoom and getting a used 70-200 f2.8 zoom will help.
Best of luck in your decision.

Heya,

Save up for a 6D and call it a day with a fast prime (F1.4, F2, F2.8).

Very best,

If you love natural low light, FF will give you better results, so I also say 6D. Looks like 2 of your lenses will already work with it, and look into some fast glass to go with it for the low light situations.

Depending on distance, you can use 50mm f/1.4 ($300), 85 f/1.8 ($300), 100 f/2 ($350), 135L ($800), 200 2.8II ($600). If you buy used, you can get almost all of these for the price of a new 70-200L II. All except the 200 offer at least one stop of aperture over the zoom. I'd prefer the speed of the primes to the convenience of a slower zoom. If you're shooting in the dark, you need all the light you can get.

Oh, and the 6D has the quietest silent shutter available on a Canon SLR. Quite nice at performances.

On a different note...if you are not pushing the ISO on your 6D to 12k and above you are not using your camera to it's full potential.

^ I have tried the expanded ISO on my 6D and while there was manageable noise, it require more post processing on individual items than I desired.
That was almost a year ago now that I shot at 12k and 25k. Perhaps it's time to try it again this weekend. My max has been 6400 with minimal post processing in Lightroom.

I too am a father that likes to shoot performances of my children.

- Try to be at the dress rehearsals to take pictures and at just enjoy the performance itself unless you are asked to also take pictures for others. You are free to walk around and will not hinder the audience.Sometimes technicians are inclined to up the lighting during rehearsal.
- You will need some longer fast lenses, the suggested 100/2.0 is a nice lens that I also like on 7D (more expensive) alternatives are a 70-200/2.8 or 135/2.0.
- Silent shooting like on the 5DIII and 6D is a bless.
- Try not to shoot slower than 1/200 or wait for a freeze of motion.

I can get around with 7D and fast glass and shoot up to 1600 ISO. 7D2 should be better.
I now shoot rehearsals with a 5DIII and 24-105 and 7D with 70-200/2.8, no more changing lenses during the action.
