That Manfrotto should do the job VERY well but it is a bit of a monster! If you could stretch to a Gitzo I think it would be a better option but, to keep prices reasonable, I would look at used ones.
Of course if you are only carrying it a few paces then weight is not so important so it's really down to your personal needs. As I am normally carrying 25 to 50lbs and I need reasonable mobility weight is very important to me, however for landscapes that I can drive to (or pretty close) then price and stability are all that matters.
Have a look at the Feisol range, 2 friends of mine have their Tournament models and I am impressed for the price, see here:

I have a feisol 3442 rapid tripod and am VEEEEERY happy with it. It is sturdy as it can be, light, can be folded very small and is reasonably high. It goes down very low and the legs are a joy to extend and fold with the rapid lock and release system. Paired with my sirui k-30 head i finally found joy in using a tripod :)

For the price that the feisol can be had, i think its a great thing!

david,

Isn't it a relief to finally use a tripod that brings you joy in its use? It makes all the difference in the world..... not more struggling with the droop/sag. A quality tripod is expensive but you soon forget the cost because you enjoy using it.

Bear in mind that the droop/sag is caused by a cheap and nasty ballhead and is not a function of the tripod itself. My carbon fibre Manfrotto 055 has been perfect since I replaced the Manfrotto ballhead with a Markins M10.

Richard,

Of course, I agree. I was using the term "tripod" in reference to both the legs and the head... as a unit. Things got better for me when I got rid of the Manfrotto RC2 quick release clamp system and better still when I was able to get a tripod/head and monopod/head from RRS.

this induro tripod is about 7.1 lbs about 1 lb lighter in the carbon fiber version ! the specks on the manfrotto 057 is just a little more above there 055 series,i'm looking as a once in a life lime triopod that will not fall over in a stiff wind and with out paying a gitzo or RRS price tag of a 1000. and i think this manfrotto will do nicely,i would love a tripod that would do it all but thats hard to find! i all ready own a travel tripod but i'm pushing its limits with the heavy gear! so i think 057 would do fine for me and its not made in japan ether witch is fine by me,i also see theres not a lot of tripods for sale hear on the forum or any other forum for that matter,so i'll be owning it a long time i think.

And what about the tripod head? That's arguably more important than the legs. I use Induro AT213 legs with an Induro BHL1 ball head. The whole thing weighs under 5 pounds and easily supports a 5D + 70-200 f/2.8. Many people only look at the legs and consider carbon fiber vs alloy for weight savings, but you might be surprised at the weight differences in some of the heads.

Whatever you get, keep your travel tripod to go along with it. I have a Benro Travel Angel that is small enough to fit inside some of my bags and to strap onto the outside of some others. Those travel tripods come in very handy when you need them.

yes i no,i'll be putting a BH-55 ball head on it so this would bring the total weight to about 7 1/2 lbs not the best to transport, but i think a vary stable platform for my 1d mk3 and 70-200 2.8.

Yes the induro is very light for its size and what it is made out of.

I guess I will have to stop replying to these threads, I have a Manfrotto tripod model 3031.
The RC2 connection is sloppy...............
Manfrotto still put the RC2 on the market and I could go to walmart and buy a 20 dollar tripod that wobbled just like my manfrotto ball head.........
That pretty much put a end to me buy anymore manfrotto products.

Everyone who I go or goes out with me to do photography loves the Induro tripod and Gimble over their own tripods , as in Manfrotto

Even though opinion is bias My Induro tripod is allot sturdier then the Manfrotto.
And the Gimble works very smooth and faster then what someone would expect.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usCPcjgts2M (external link)

IMO the Induro is a better tripod because it is allot sturdier then a manfrotto.

I live in northern Nevada and the wind blows here most of the time, never had a problem with the Induro tripod even thinking about blowing over.

Good luck in what ever you buy.

I have this:

http://www.jobu-design.com …pod-Version-10_p_123.html (external link)

Amazing tripod.

Series 5 strength in a Series 3 size/weight at a Series 2 price. And much, much, much, much better crafted than my Gitzos.

If you go for version 1.0 vs. the 1.1., you can get one for around USD 550. Stick a Markins Q-20 on top of it and you have, for < 5lbs, something that will carry a schoolbus and last you a lifetime.

IMHO, better than the Gitzos!

At least, in terms of strength and build.

One thing it does not have, though, is a modular apex for you to e.g., switch in a video bowl etc.
