Not that it had the recycle time to keep up with his almost constant burst mode. He seemed to think it made a diference when asked about it, haven't seen his photos so he may be right though I wouldn't have thought it would. He had a lot more kit (and a lot more expensive kit) than me so either knew what he was talking about or has more money to burn on gear than most ![]() Also lots of tablets and phones with the flash on too. And what good does that flash even do? Some people make me wonder. I even wonder how people can use a tripod at an airshow. What I even find more amusing are people who use a monopod. How is that even going to work at an airshow?

I was hedging my bets with 'money to burn' over knowing something everyone else didn't. Canon 6D / Canon 70-200 IS ii / Sigma 100 Macro f2.8 / 50mm f1.8

Using an EF 600 f4 on a tripod with gimballed head makes a heap of sense, if the tripod is tall enough. There is no restriction to movement and the exposure can be kept slow enough to get a good prop blur....hard to do with a 12 lb lens hand held! But I take your point about conventional tripods...way too cumbersome. Growing old disgracefully!

I can't imagine flash helping outdoors at airshow distances in any way. Wish I had his AA Battery contract. I have seen flash used outdoors, pointing straight up but with the white bounce panel extended. You'd be surprised how much that can help put a little life in eyes or open shadows under hats. Yes, it can help... <re-engage cloaking device> Hi Jay! Growing old disgracefully!

joeseph "smells like turd" More info | Nov 03, 2014 03:01 | #27 those of us that have been around awhile are less impressed with rigs as we are photos. Just sayin... some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
