Here's a shot I took of the less brighter end of the milky way at Mono Lake. I was amazed how I could see Andromeda on the my cameras display without zooming in on this photo! I was like "WOW " Thanks for looking guys!

Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L II @ 17mm (don't ask why I didn't shoot at 16mm vmad )

Now's the time of year to catch a glimpse. Between now and next month it crawls above the horizon due north. Easy in binoculars in a dark sky and possible from the burbs.

Steve.

Thanks Desertraptor! Maybe I'm seeing something else LOL I'm new at this :) Is that tiny oval about 1/3 down from the top just the right of the milky way Andromeda?

My comment was really directed at Desertraptor as Andromeda only just gets above the horizon for a month or so for us down here. You folks up there can see it any old time. :)
Still, any time out of the city in dark skies has to be good.

Peter - It's about the same brightness as the Magellanic Clouds so if you can see them, you should be right (except facing the wrong way).
