I'm Borrowing a Rebel for a photo booth and need to trigger it via a Pocket Wizard. It's a fairly new rebel and has a miniphone looking remote port. Can I just use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable? Will it fit and will it work? I only need it one night for a friend's anniversary party, so I'd like to not have to go buy some expensive proprietary cable if I can help it.

pretty sure the rebel cable is 2.5mm, not a standard 3.5mm audio connector (at least my 350D is)

you need to make sure the correct pins are connected too, its easy enough to make a cable if you can use a soldering iron (i made my own pre trigger cable for a rebel, then later hacked a cable release to build one for a 1D)

Thanks for the info. I just ended up paying $25 to have a PW cable shipped to my house by Thursday. Do the 7Ds use the same cable?

It is possible to research this yourself. I'd start by downloading the manuals from Canon's website and making a comparison of the accesories. Since it appears you aren't familiar with either camera, the manuals will also likely prove helpful on setup.

It is possible, but I figured the friendly people here might have been able to help.

Can you share your photobooth set-up? I've been researching this for the past year and I'm always curious how other photogs are doing it.

I have two open style set-ups. For my one set-up, I have everything enclosed in frame and covered up with white translucent paneling. For my other set-up, I have a T4i with ABR800 on a tripod connected to a laptop and an HDMI cable going into a 39" TV. Crowd pleaser. In either situations, the session is initiated by hitting the button or space bar (depends on my set-up).

How are you using the PW?

Mine isn't that advanced. I'm going to have the camera set on a tripod with a Dynalite head in a beauty dish positioned above the camera. The pocket wizard will be mounted somewhere with a big "PRESS HERE" label on it. It'll start the timer on the camera and then take a picture. There's not going to be a review screen or anything. All the photos are going to go in a FB group of the people at the party or to the Anniversary couple. It'll be a small group of friends and people we all know, so it won't have to be set up to print like a real photo booth.
