with serial # 05... from the non-original owner who has no idea if shutter fix was done or what shutter count is? It's a pretty good deal, but not a ridiculous one.

Now that I've typed it out it seems like an obvious "pass"...

I believe canon will fix the shutter box issue for free. I had that camera for a while and loved it. The technology is a little old but the iq is very pleasing.

Its not the shutter fix, its the mirror fix. And at this point its very likely the mirror will be fine because it if hasnt fallen off by now its probably okay.

I know of people that have done the mirror fix themselves as well, it isn't a big deal. If it was priced around $400 or so, I would get it.

I was wondering about that, but given that this camera is a hundred years old I wasn't sure. Canon's Product Advisory still seems to be up for it, so I guess they would cover it.

I recently sold mine. Had it since 2006 and am missing it already!
There is just something about the files it produces, they have a wonderful look. I don't know what it is but I like it!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've missed mine from the day I sold it as well. Considering getting back in to full frame further up stream, with a 6D or D610, but the more I think about it the more sense (and cents) the 5D makes. It would not be my primary camera, but it would be nice to have that look when desired.

I think it makes a perfect walk around camera with a fast prime.

I had the mirror repaired on my 5D at a cost of about $340.00.

That said, if the price was right, I would buy another...

Did that include a shutter assembly replacement? I havent priced it a year or so but canon did charge about $250 to replace the shutterbox and the mirror repair was free. I noticed more reports of people sending 5Ds in for the mirror repair were being told that a shutter replacement was also needed.

Is the shutter assembly known to be defective, or just failing because of use/age?

Isn't there an LCD issue on the early 5Ds as well?

My serial number is from the second year of production, no problems other than being small.

There is no issue beyond age/wear. Some of the early 5Ds had a slight tint to the LCD, yellow if memory serves. The LCD on the 5D isnt the greatest, but I always considered it a feature. Many times on lesser cameras the preview image was exciting only to be less so on the computer screen. With the 5D the previews were a bit mundane on the LCD but brilliant on the pc.
