I haven't given up hope completely, but I suspect that the S3 IS and the A700 are supposed to fill the gap left by the G and Pro. Maybe from a marketing standpoint, but not from a photographer's. 7D, G10, 17-55 f/2.8 IS, 70-200 f/2.8 IS, 100 Macro, 50 f/1.4, 430EX II

Bah indeed. I don't see how the A700 replaces the G, since it doesn't have a hotshoe. I guess I can kind of see the S3 replace the Pro1. But if you have seen the pictures from a Pro1, you might not think so. I have seen pictures from the S2 and it does not compare in my opinion. 5D | 17-40L | Tammy 28-75 2.8 | 28-135 | 50/1.8 | 85/1.8 | Sony A6000 2-Lens Kit | SEL35 1.8 | EF 50 1.8 on NEX as my 75mm 1.8

That, and the hotshoe issue, which I hadn't noticed, do make me think there's going to be another model. Here's hoping. 7D, G10, 17-55 f/2.8 IS, 70-200 f/2.8 IS, 100 Macro, 50 f/1.4, 430EX II

Be grounded in what technology would have actually made it to the new G7/pro2, and what trades you would live to get those new features.
My pro2 would have been a minor, tiny upgrade from the pro1. http://www.surrealcolor.com

Whether that makes the camera better or not depends a lot on your needs. However, check out the specs at www.dpreview.com 7D, G10, 17-55 f/2.8 IS, 70-200 f/2.8 IS, 100 Macro, 50 f/1.4, 430EX II
