Website worthy 1

Is this image website worthy? Since getting some honest directions from this forum I am trying to accent my website with better images and not a smorgasbord of everything. Trying to decide if this one will fit.

You'll probably get some sound advice from people who know what they're talking about. In the meantime, I'll comment that the position of the model's right arm/shoulder is awkward, and it's usually best not to cut off feet and toes. It also might have been worth a try to change your position somewhat and eliminate the wooded background. Others will probably disagree, but I like the harsh shadows in this image.

If I were to compare this shot to those that were in your portfolio previously, I'd rank this one at or near the top.

The image seems dark overall and toned somehow.

Her right (our left) hand is kind of claw-like.

I have no idea what enormous thing in the photo is--you've devoted so much space to it that it definitely distracts from what I assume is your intended main subject. Imagine seeing this image in isolation without having any idea what this object is rather than seeing it as part of a set that you have firsthand knowledge about.

That is a 1950-60 gas pump.

What is disturbing is the fact that I didn't see what you guys have pointed out.

I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with the gas pump or the background in the image, I just feel like the whole picture seems a little too dark and there are quite a few distracting shadows. The way the picture is currently cropped, it looks like there is a lot of excess headroom-which I get is necessary so that the viewer can understand that she's standing next to an old gas pump and not just some giant random tank, but with all the headroom, there really needs to be more space on the bottom of the picture to balance it out and not cut off the models feet. As far as whether or not it's "website worthy", that's entirely up to you. I think it's comparable to the other images on your site and it shows a different style of photography.

I believe, and I'm not a professional, that when you take a photograph like this, you have to have an identifiable subject. All the other elements within the photo have to support the subject. In this photo, what is the subject, the girl or the gas pump? If it's the girl, the gas pump is too large and it draws the eye away from the girl. It competes with her and it shouldn't. If it's the gas pump, the girl is superfluous.

The background is too in focus. Your f/stop was not wide enough. Even if you shot this with a wider f/stop, however, you still have the window panes coming out of her head.

I'm not a fan of the processing. I don't know what you did, but her face is the color of silly putty and looks unnatural.

My images always look dark because my laptop screen is brighter than most. I like the brightness but it hurts me in my editing.

Have you considered getting software to calibrate your monitor? Otherwise, all your pictures will be off when they're printed too.

As far as your screen brightness effecting your images, do you only edit on that screen and use some other one for looking at other images on? Surly you can tell if your image exposure is about right if you compare it to any other ones you'll see on the internet? Calibrating your monitor will do little for this issue - go outside on a sunny day and inside at night two really different 'brightnesses' of your monitor there.

I think the lighting could be a bit nicer seeing as it's coming from two different sources you have control of that. I like the cream scarf pulling the red and brown together well.

I've never been a fan of toe chopping in photos, especially given the amount of head room you've given your model.

Windows 8 has calibration software built into the OS. I use Windows 7 (which is the same calibration software as 8) and the calibration results were very close to the ones I get with Spyder.

What do you mean by 'correctly' Your edit will be different than mine and that will be different then someone else. Editing an image is part of the look you develop as a photographer I guess is what I'm saying, play about and learn what you like the look of.

But just for fun, could have spent more time on the light around the boot heal but it's late and there is beer to drink:

I know my edit will look different but one of the other post the person stated the way I edited made her skin look like silly putty. I just wanted to see what someone her my do with the skin.
