Problem is that it is not the quality of the photos that are fetching the high prices. Remove the names and the backstory from the photos and they become worthless. It's not like the old masters where you look as a Michelangelo sculpture even not knowing that it's a Michelangelo, but you can appreciate the incredible skill it took to create. Most of these photos are rather ordinary but they have a great line of BS backing them up along with a strong personality pushing the "this is art" thing. The odds of one of your photos getting anything more than a few $$ is low unless your willing to enter the art circles and start your own line of BS surrounding your pictures.
that is exactly what you can not do. art is not just what you see composition wise, but the concept behind is equally important. without it, its just formalism, en empty decoration.
David without you knowing the story is just a naked man, and his body tension and facial expression says nothing to you, you have no idea what emotions he is facing, what goes on inside of him, what he has to do, what twist Michelangelo is putting on that character, all expressed by the form of the sculpture. If you just say: "what a well sculpted naked man, look at the realism" and so on, you are not experience the meaning of the art piece, but just how good the artist was with realism, anatomy etc, you are just talking about the mechanical craft.
Michelangelo was call BS by the public in his day too by the way, a mad pornographer etc, ordered by the pope to cover the nakedness on that most famous ceilings of all.
