I have a 50D and a M. I brought the M as a back up for a shoot. I could not get the detail out of the 50D and switched to the M. The M nailed focus every time and the did the rest of a six hour shoot with the M. I don't care about megapixels, I want it to nail the focus. So was in the market for a new camera. Choices, 70D, 60D, T5i. I choose the t5i. Why? I have old man eyes, can't see the upper led. The touch screen features are bigger and the touch screen is faster than poke poke dial poke, on buttons and dials all over the camera. With the touch screen, hit Q and all the rest are on the touch screen and fast. Also if you have an M. the controls are the same. Now if you got familiar with the buttons on a higher end camera, it can be mighty fast. like touch typing. But
how fast would you type if every computer you bought had a different keyboard layout. I have
not used the 50D since I got the other cameras.

I love this thread - its so typical of a POTN "what body to buy" thread! Its all over the place  not a scientific count but it looks like 1/2 the folks are saying go for the T5i and the other half are 70D

iCameron - welcome to Club 70D - say hello on the 70D thread... we're pretty harmless ;) and easy to get along with

P.S. its funny - I have a 70D and Love it - yet given what the OP wanted - I suggested the T5i

i literally just sold my t5i yesterday and bought a new 70d. With all the hype over the 7d mkII i was able to pick up my 70d for a good price.

improved battery life, improved grip, improved controls and improved autofocus are the things that i've noticed immediately. i'm happy so far.

i would love to pick up a 7d mkII but i got a 70d, a 24-105L, a youngno flash + triggers, and a tripod for about the same price.

7Dmk II gripped | 5Dc | 100-400L IS II | 55-250 IS STM | 100L f/2.8 IS Macro | 15-85 IS | 50 f/1.8 STM |
Learn to love to do well, and you shall.

Thanks for all the feedback. t5i is fine for my needs. Played with 70D in store. Grip looks bigger than my t3i. But depth is the same which should help me to use my existing bag. My rebel is very comfortable to carry around with one hand.

My order status changed to inventory fulfillment. Hopefully, I will get shipping confirmation by end of the day. If they cancel my order, I can try getting t5i with those discounts.
I got 70D with 18-135 is stm kit for $760 + tax. I am thinking of letting go one of 18-135 or 17-50 lens to keep this affordable.
Thanks

Congrats, khwaja.

As I said before, you'll love your new 70D.

If you are shooting any video the dual pixel AF available in the 70D works wonders with the STM lenses like the 18-135. This technology gives you improved AF in live view for video recording and the STM lenses focus smoothly and nearly silently. The T5i lacks the dual pixel AF. I'll also echo the statement of the earlier poster about the better balance with larger lenses with the 70D over the rebels. I don't have overly large hands and my T4i, which is essentially identical to the T5i, doesn't give you much room to grip with a larger zoom until I add the battery grip. The balance is just better with a somewhat larger body. Also, I think you will really like the top mounted lcd display on the 70D. I don't think you'll regret your decision.

Thanks Dave. I received camera. Kudos to Canon for honoring coupon discounts. Liking 70D focusing speed with outer points and lcd like view finder showing active focus points in AI servo mode. Lens 18-135 is also very nice and fool proof like. Couple of pics with 18-135 is stm lens.
