I keep waiting for them to clear up. Do they ever pop into focus? The only thing sharp is some undefined tubing.
Sorry, I don't get it. Perhaps, re-shoot with a greater depth of field.

Exposure and color balance are great.

The end of the chop sticks are the only thing that I chose to be in focus the DOF was about 4(I think) because I whated the bkgd to be out of focus. I know I using an older canon lens but it still looks in focus. Don't they?

I think he means the stitching on the bamboo mat. It does look a bit odd.

I'm affraid they both look OOF to me. If anything I think it appears you have some front-focusing issue going on as the chopsticks (are they chopsticks?) appear blurred in both pictures, yet there seems to be a tiny portion of the "black line" in front of them that is sharp. (more noticable in the left-hand pic)

Just my opinion.

If the only thing you want in focus are the chopsticks, you should blur the background more so that it is just a color pattern and not recognizable. Now it just looks like a bowl out of focus.

I prefer the shot with the flower ... it is more inviting to look at!

The one with the flower is lovely, but like everyone else the lack of focus doesn't work for me.

Umm...on first glance, I thought I had the wrong glasses on!:D No really, I just feel the defocussed objects outweigh the focussed objects and your eyes are drawn to the blurry stuff.

I guess a simple solution would be to leave everything as is, but move the focal plane back to the bowl...give it a try and show us the result!
