First newborn shoot, please C&C

So I did a friend a favor and shoot her 2 weeks old newborn. Even after seeing so many wonder works here on POTN, I still felt very limited in my knowledge of the possible poses and angle to shoot. Luckily, it wasn't a paid gig so I used it as a learning experience. Please let me know what I could have done better. Thanks!

In picture 1, the baby is too red and the skin is blotchy. In 2, the baby skin color is still off and the image is dark for a baby picture, so it looks gloomy instead of happy. Picture 3 is alright from a development perspective, but the depth of field is kind of weird. In picture 3, the area immediately surrounding the baby head is out of focus, but then the fabric comes back into focus again away from the baby head, and is perfectly in focus at the right side of the photo, and again starts to become out of focus again at the edge of the photo. Picture 4 is also good in the development, but there is also weird depth of field effects in that shot too.

Thanks for the critique CRCchemist. Looking it over, it does make lots of sense. Im gonna re-edit these to see.
