The Problem: For years, I've organised my files in folders following this hierarchy:
Main Photo Folder \ Year \ Date taken (YYYY-MM-DD)
Lightroom uses this hierarchy by default, I think, so I followed it as it is quite logical. The problem began when I switched from LR to C1P, as the latter follows a different logic for ingesting and organising files. An example, whereas LR will create folders based on the 'taken on' date and duly put files in those, C1P has to be instructed to create and name folders in the Import dialog box and even then, it will put all photos (whether taken on that date or not) into the same folder, unless one manually imports them into dated folders (which would require several import operations). C1P is funny that way —maybe a legacy from the 'Sessions' logic which it's always been based on.
So, in an effort to make things easier, I purchased Photo Mechanic to deal with importing and metadata (C1P really sux at keywording). Well, things are far from clearing out... Photo Mechanic and C1P don't seem to like each other much.
Anywise, my question here is: any suggestions on managing a growing library of files, some of which have been processed by different applications (there's also those TIFFs coming from Photoshop), so as to make it easy to find the photos you need fast? I'm compiling a 'stock library' that I hope to put on my website for my clients to hopefully purchase files from.
Any suggestions to integrate Photo Mechanic into the whole management?
Some important considerations: I'm not going to go back to LR. Nor am I willing to ditch Photo Mechanic or ask for a refund. I'm looking for a practical approach to make things more efficient with the tools I have. So, please, let's not turn this thread into a 'my dog is better than your dog' kind of contest.
TIA
