Hello all,

I currently have a 6D with 24-105, 35mm Siggy and Canon 85mm. I will soon get a 40mm: my goal is to be able to bring 6D + 40mm only during business trips. I am looking for a pouch to carry them both: I've ran into these OpTech products and I was wondering if it could fit in the "Auto" model: http://optechusa.com/soft-pouch-body-cover.html (external link)

From the size I imagine it should fit but does it really fit in real life? Or are there other options to consider?

Thanks!

Heya,

That just seem like something to cover it up, but offers zero protection otherwise.

Do you need a pouch/cover like that? Or are you looking for just a smaller, discreet way to carry an SLR? Have you looked at things like the Lowepro Sling?

Very best,

Thanks for you reply MalVeaux! I am looking for something that I could just slip into my carry-on and to protect the camera minimaly from any scratch or slight damage. Outside from transporting it from point A to B, I would just carry it around my neck.

It should fit. The one I have is 8"x 6"x 4.5", and it fits my 6D with 24-105

Ahh,

In that case, have you considered a hard case that is small enough to fit like that, but offers real protection? It's not specific to cameras, but look into something like a Hippo Case (usually for headphones, but it's similar enough and you can take out the padding and alter that to your needs). Or any headphone hard case that is large enough for a 6D. Full size headphones are bigger than that camera, so they will all fit with room to spare. Lets you throw padding above/below. Lots of protection, without being a big space hog.

Very best,

I quite like these Hippo cases and they indeed provide a better protection! I will now need to find one that can accomodate the 6D.

Thanks for this tip!

I've used the OpTech cover on my 6D for over a year (and on my T2i for several years). Love it. My 6D is with me every day, either in my backpack or slung over my shoulder. The neoprene cover is light enough that I can use it for walk-around work, and it opens with a single snap. The advantage of the OpTech cover is that it provides bump and scrape protection, at a lower profile than other camera accessories. The 6D is a very tough camera in its own right.

If you don't mind, which OpTech case did you go with? Do you use it with just the body or body + lens? The DSLR Zoom case looks like it should fit the 6D +24-105 nicely.

I have one of these neoprene pouches, and it's exactly perfect for travelling or commuting, where the camera will be packed in a backpack or briefcase etc. I bought mine on eBay search ('Neoprene camera cover') - I think there were a couple of sizes available - the one I bought fits snugly over my 5D3 with the 40mm attached. Great value and very practical thing to have, if you use the 40mm frequently.

I'm currently using Manfrotto Lino Custodia VIII Camera Pouch. Its fit my 5dm2 with 40mm which can put into any sling bag or backpack.
Happy with this as of now.

Sorry for the long time without reply! I ended up going for the Optech Auto pouch: when I first saw it I wonder how would the 6D be able to fit!

But it is exactly the right size for the 6D plus 40mm ; the neoprene is quite thick so I provides a good protection!

I can only recommend this option for anyone looking for a small pouch

Sorry that I couldnt help sooner, depending how you use the pouch, the Lowepro S & F utility bag 100 may be a better pouch. There's a belt clip that works very well, I use it to carry my A7r + two primes. 6D + 40 also fits, even leaving a little space for a thin strap. it also has a cover that makes it water sealed, probably the perfect pack for a trip to an amusement park, biking, hiking, anything where you value a really small kit.
