On Saturday night, my hometown Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League held their 7th annual Pink Out game to benefit the Karmanos Cancer Institute. This year, along with the usual pink uniforms and pink dyed hair, a local car dealership covered the cost to turn the ice pink. I brought along my Canon 5D3 and 70-200 f/4L IS to attempt to capture some of the action.

It was a lot tougher shooting with pink ice than with the normal white ice. My usual technique of blowing out the ice and then bringing down the highlights in Lightroom did not work as well with the pink ice. Raising the exposure tended to lose the pink color of the ice, and lowering it caused the rest of the image to look a little underexposed. I tried to balance the two as best I could. Hockey is not easy to shoot under normal circumstances, but this was even tougher!
