Following on from a recent thread I have just bought a G16 and am quite interested in the Clearviewer attachment.

Not sure which version to go for - the tripod bush mount or the flash shoe mount. Any advice on the pros and cons of each would be gratefully received.

Thanks,
AL

I was probably the one that planted the seed to look at it. The hot shoe mount seems an easy version to put on and take off. However, the Canon hot shoes are designed to have a unique switch that senses a flash is attached, and will disable your built in flash. If you use a hot shoe cover, it has to have a notch designed in it to prevent tripping this hot shoe switch, otherwise your camera flash will not work. I don't think the Clearviewer hot shoe version has this design notch. I use only the tripod mount models, but you would need to also buy the option that includes a metal tripod thread to regain the tripod capability. The basic model used to include a threaded hole to attach a tripod, but it was not very durable. I think they discontinued that feature.

Edit: I see they still offer a version that includes a basic tripod hole, but it's plastic. My NX20 Clearviewer tripod mount does not include a hole for a tripod connection.

Thanks very much. I was concerned about the hotshoe - I always used Richard Franiec's covers with my G12 and SX50 because of the reasons you mention so I'm glad you have cleared that point up.

The G16 tripod bush is not centralised so that's something I'll probably need to ask the maker about - unless you can answer that too :)

Regards,
AL

Sorry, the maker will have to let you know whether they can make one for the G16. My guess is yes they can. My G9 tripod bush (as you call it) is also not centralized, and the Clearviewer is designed for this model.
