What are the prices? Probably $3000+. HP is the only one with a reasonably priced 24" wide printer at $1200. Epsons 24" printers are $3000+ too.

That's great news, Guess I'll hold off on buying the 9900, unless the prices for these are in the thousands.
My guess would be from $3000 to $6000 maybe I'll still buy the i9900

Does Canon introduce new printers at PMA? I was hoping to hear of an upgraded i9900.

HORY MORY!!!!!!!!

Nice catch Rick!!!!! ;)

imagePROGRAF iPF5000 (external link)

Did you all check out the 17" wide format 12 color ink set! ?
(unfortunately there saying this unit will be priced near $2K :( :( )

BUT there's more
PIXMA pro9000 (external link)

PIXMA pro9500 (external link)

Though these will only print to 13" wide and one uses ten of the pigment inks,. the other uses the ChromaLife dye inks.. leaving us all in a desperate decision for wide format printing..

10-Color Pigment Ink System
For photographs with high-contrast, beautifully reproduced colors, photographers need look
no further than the PIXMA Pro9500. Its 10-color archival pigment ink system includes gray,
black and matte black inks that collectively produce monochrome photographs of unrivaled
quality on a variety of papers, including fine art and glossy photo papers. With pigment ink,
photographers can create archival prints with incredible color reproduction and fine detail.
With the new PIXMA Pro9000 and Pro9500, Canon has further expanded
photographers’ options for home printing. Compatible with the EOS 30D’s
advanced camera direct capabilities for unrivaled image control, these
printers are a massive step forward in fine art printing from a computer.
• Maximum 4800 x 2400 dpi FINE print head
technology.
• 10-color pigment ink system for professional
image performance; black and white photos
with black, matte black and gray ink
cartridges. (Pro9500 only)
• ChromaLife100 technology for long-lasting,
beautiful photos. (Pro9000 only)
• Photo lab quality 11" x 14" photo in approximately
3 min. 59 sec. (Pro9500) or 1 min. 23
sec. (Pro9000).
• Support for fine art paper with two separate
paper paths.
• Professional printer features using
Easy-PhotoPrint Pro.
PIXMA Pro9500
PIXMA Pro9000

Damn... talk about being overwhelmed with choices! I'm SOooooooooooooooo glad I never upgraded from the i9100 to the i9900  ;)

The new pro9000 and pro9500 are now on Canon USA's site,.

PIXMA pro9000 (external link)

PIXMApro9500 (external link)

Remember,. the difference between these two is Dye Vs. Pigment.
Same model otherwise,. the choice one with 8 color Dye or the other with 10 color Pigment..

.... and the i9900 is no longer linked from the front page ...
http://consumer.usa.canon.com …tIndexAct&fcategoryid=103 (external link)

Canon has added the Awesome IP5000 to the Canon USA site...

imagePROGRAF iPF5000 (external link)

Unfortunately what we thought was going to be a "transition" priced large fromat desktop unit seems to being marketed with a very non consumer/ametuer friendly $2k sticker price!

In other words.. this unit is priced right up there with it's roll fed pedestal mounted ProGraf w6400 & w8400 monster printers.. :(

Two bad,. I would have been seriously interested if this unit was more like the HP model and bridged the price gap @ around $1K

However the $1,900.00 price I have seen is the suggested retail.. perhaps in a few months it will street for less? But how much less?
@ around $1,000.00 no more I could see this unit tempting some people in the i9900 market.. and certainly grabbing anyone looking for larger than 13" wide and roll feed capacity. Not to mention anyone looking for a better wide format for monotone.

PRICING THUS FAR (Mide March)

IP 5000 looks to be priced in the $2000.00 US dollar range.

The 9000 series I have found pricing info thus far only at Norman Camera where;

Pro 9000 is currently priced at $500.00
.. so essentially this is the successor to the current i9900 which followed the equally priced 13X19" i9100

The Pro9500 listed @ $849.00
This seems to be a significant jump in price for the change to Pigment inks?

This is exciting. I see a printer upgrade path now, though I will enjoy the ip6600D for a good while. If the ink proves to be durable, I'm in for a 9000 series.

i9950 is the UK version of what we call the i9900 in the U.S.

It is Canon's current flagship desktop printer,. and is approx (almost exactly) two years old now (or is it three? it may be three! )
And yes it is AWESOME!

The difference between i9900 and i9950 is that the Non US versions of many of Canons printers can print directly onto CD-R media. US models can't (and we have no idea why? )

The Other models referenced above are not yet on the street,. indeed I don't think Canon has even actually announced them yet?

Canon Printers such as the i9900 etc.. have been using the "ChromaPlus" inks for some time. These are Dye inks.. These inks have historically been said to offer better color fidelity than pigment.

Only recently has Canon delved into the longer lasting more archival inks with there "ChromaLife 100" series of inks now used in some of there newest printers; these are dye also however,. the latest Pritneres above the ip5000 and the ip9500 will use a new pigment system for even greater (claimed) archival ability,. called "Lucia"

http://consumer.usa.canon.com …&keycode=chromalife_index (external link)

This is dye based Ink.

The lack of CD-R printing capability in North America is Canon printers is patent related, CDS.
