This is one of those birds that shows up on this board fairly frequently with a "Who's this" attached to it. Case in point is today's thread by cdiver.

It's also one of those types of birds that for me has always been easier to see than to photograph well as shown in the image below. This image was captured from about 60 feet away.

IMAGE: http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp154/vroompuppy/Avian%20Friends/More%20Avians/CE4E2473b_1024x700_zps5dadca2b.jpg

I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time late last week when the bird pictured below landed in an Ash tree in front of me.

And then it figured out where the noise was coming from and took off soon after.

I hope to see this bird again soon when I'm properly prepared as it has the interesting past time of chasing young Goldfinches. I have seen it intimidate them into flight from the birdbath and then chase after them for short distances....a behavior I'd love to capture. Thanks for checking these out and I look forward to comments and critiques.

Well done Steve. I have found most of the flycatchers to be difficult to get close enough for those stunning images. If they do let you get close they seem to be great posers.

Very nice, Steve. I've always felt they portray an understated elegance; and they always seem ready to pose nicely.

Thanks a bunch Stephen! I also happened to be out when the light was right :)

Much appreciated C! Maybe yours is local like mine and will come back to see you.

Haha John, a true voice of experience about stalking these wary birds. They only let one get so close and boom - their off. Always appreciate your comments and conversations.

Al

I'd agree that the general stature of the flycatchers always seems to be elegant Al. Maybe it's the broad-shouldered look they have. Thanks for the lovely comments as always.

I like that pose too Red! Kind of funny how one can rattle off 5-6 quick captures and all have little bits of difference. Greatly appreciate your kind words.

Outstanding shots as always, Steve. Somewhere back in the archives, I believe I have a shot of an EP and remember wondering "What?' Luckily had an experienced birder standing next to me.

:) I LOL'd when I saw that last pic of him looking at you. What a beautiful series of pics, most of which look like they have been lit with studio lighting. Great timing on your part to get these guys Steve.

Love your generous comments Jeremy....including the "skillful" part :)
I'd settle for positionally lucky and photographically skillful....how `bout that!

Always appreciated Rog. I know I'm lucky to have watched this bird most of the past Summer and had an ID ready to go ;)

Haha Ian....thanks so much; the Fall lighting has returned and is sooo much better than Summer. The "looking at you" image was a hoot and I laughed at it too when I first saw it.
