I was looking at the image under magnification in PS - It's difficult to say... perhaps a weakness of the lens under the shooting conditions, or maybe even the slightest of vibrations that was introduced to the tripod over the 20 second duration. A side by side comparison with an "L" lens would have been interesting.

i noticed in the most recent MacMall catalog that there was a substantial mail-in rebate for the 1Ds MK II (almost $900 USD). it was displayed in the Digital Camera Blowout section with (of course) the 20D which was just replaced (not really upgraded) by the 30D. what could this mean?

Well, that model came out around August of 2005, I believe. Seems sort of a short time ago to be phasing out if that's the plan. Anyone know how sales of that model have been? It's still a little pricey at around $4k IMHO.

if you can find a 1Ds MKII at $4K, go for it! the price it's listed at before rebate is $7,999 USD!

I stand corrected :o - didn't realize the substantial price difference there. I'm still counting on a nice 5D with a solid lens for about the same price.

September 04. Think you are thinking of the 1Dmk2n, not the 1Dsmk2.

All the best

yeah, but wouldn't that be a sweet price point for the 1DsMKII? they'd move a ton!

And since I was one of the first on my block to get one the answer for the 1DsMkII was Nov 2004. It took me a touch over a week to get my hands on one and mine arrived on 23 Nov 2004. I think the product release date was 12 Nov 2004.

The announcement was made in Sept 2004 though.

Price when I bought it was $7999 US. Can now be got for $6900 US at BH.

ouch my wallet hurts evertime I see that I could get another whole digital camera like 20D for the difference in price between then and now. Oh well at least I have gotten 50,000 images for the difference. 8) 8) 8) :)

From a financial point of view, 350D and 20D are the true battlehorses

Indeed! But they need the pro cameras because people will buy these then buy more glass, flashes and so on... seems that we get more and more stuck into their web ;-)a
