I too think its a tension ring of some sort...maybe you can manually extend like the old and use it as a twist as needed...

who's keeping track of all the "new 100-400L" threads that have resulted in nothing over the last 9 years?

At least we now have a picture of the lens. :)

Digicame-info has a very good track record of not posting any info until just a few days before release. I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

I'll be watching the used and clearance market because for me the current 100-400L would work just fine, potentially in the budget for early Springtime. Should be interesting once a few get into the hands of end consumers.

When the 70-200/2.8 II was released for so much more than the V1, the price difference actually kept the used prices of the V1 up and actually increased the street value for a while. Used prices of the V1 were higher than the new prices a year before it was discontinued. I wouldn't hope for the 100-400 V1 prices to drop anytime soon. If that is what you want and can afford it now get it. I wouldn't wait for the II to come out.

Wow, Canon is checking off a couple of sorely needed wishlist items: 7D II and 100-400L II. Awesome!

I'm hopin' and a wishin' that it beats the poo out of the 200-400mm and only costs $1600.

I am still confused by the tightening ring in the middle, maybe you can slcken off the zoom to use the hood as push-pull? This would be nice, I liked push-pull.

David I'm betting $1999.
I love the push pull on the 28-300, just natural and much quicker for me.

That's less than my cynical brain was expecting (my expectations were in the neighborhood of $3K).

Price announced at $2200 with 77mm filter ring. Smaller and lighter than the 150-600s. I am looking forward to reviews on this baby!

I like the MFD being cut in half.Makes the lens much more versitile.

Here's hoping!

Look at the "talk" about this lens.
Half the people love the push pull, and half loathe it. Maybe they took a no won situation (choosing one or the other) and made Lemonade by offering BOTH!
Of course I too am firmly in the "love it" camp, so I do want my one touch zoom!
