Hi!
I had the chance to play with a 7D mark II for a short time and improvised a short comparison with my 7D mark I.
2 lenses: EF-S 18-135 STM (autofocus in live view) and 100mm MACRO f/2.8 (first version, without IS) (manual focus in live view at 10 magnification)
2 apertures: f/5.6 and f/8
The table is aprox 60cm wide, shooting distance aprox 2.2m at aprox 100mm (well 96/98 on the EF-S 18-135 STM)
Strobe Godox qt-600 with a stripbox above the camera. I don’t have a light meter so the exposures are not consistent but for the same aperture and ISO both lenses and cameras received the same amount of light (same value on the strobe – as described in the diagram below)
Both RAW and JPG. Noise reduction disabled, standard camera profile.
Due to time constraints I cannot prepare side by side 100% crops but if anyone has the time I am uploading the original files (I only had time to rename the jpgs according to the exif)
Is not a scientific test, it was done in a hurry but I was very curious to see the differences between the 2 cameras at low ISO.
What do you think?
:)

I should mention that the jpgs are straight from the camera, not from raw files.

When iso nr is set to disabled, there is still nr at some of the iso levels, and the 7d2 has higher values set than the 7d, just as an fyi.

I am not concerned too much with noise in this test ... I was looking into the sharpness/details side of the road :)

With only a slightly more than cursory look through these to me it would appear that the 7DII has no advantage over the 7DI @ or below 1600 ISO. That was a lot of work you did to do this test, and it is done well enough to have real value. kudos

It may just be my phone but it looks like the 7d won to me.

My ... not so "happy with it" attempt of editing the raw files ... in Lightroom: tiffs from 7D II and cr2 from 7D ...

In a hurry I couldn't match the edits (first time editing tiffs in Lightroom) ... but you can still see the differences : http://we.tl/k8yg0XsWPV (external link)

LOL ... first mistake ... being used with Capture one (where you recover the highlights by dragging the slider to the right) I did the same in Lightroom and accentuated the highlights instead of recovering some :( ... I wondered why the hair was looking blown out :)

And ... taking everything into consideration, today I will send back the new 7D and keep the old one.

Thank you Canon for giving me the final push to go full frame ...
