I currently shoot with a 7d and I am thinking of upgrading to full frame. I plan to keep my 7d as a 2nd body. I primarily shoot landscapes and portraits but will comes times shoot moving cars and action/sports. I am wondering if I should spend the extra $$ for the 5d or get the 6d and use my 7d when needed for action/sports. thanks for any advise given

Like you, coming from a pair of 7D's, the choice was and is simple. The 5D Mark III. A true upgrade of the 7D. The similar, upgraded Auto Focus alone is enough for me. Also better build quality, button layout and operation of the body is built from the 7D body. An easier flow of back and forth.
The 6D layout and AF system is similar to the older 40d and 50D bodies. A better flow of back and forth.

Get a 6D or 5Dc. Both are wonderful cameras. Keep the 7D. You'll appreciate the reach, when you need it. I use a 6D and 60D. That is a great setup for me. Although, if I fall into some money, I'd order a 7D2 and a 5D3.

If you buy a 5D3 you will almost never use your 7D (just some time for the reach ... and not even sure)
If you want to keep your 7D, better to buy a 5D2 or a 6D, 7D complete perfectly those 2 FF

Landscape, portrait, even moving cars; 6D. Action/sports other than moving cars; 5DIII.

Like you I came from a. 7D. ( I liked i a lot)
I doubt if you buy a 5D3 that you will use the 7D much, personally I would sell the 7D and buy a 1.4 'teleconverter ( if it works with your 70-200 ). Then you have the reach on your best lens. Or live with the 70-300 you have.
For me FF is a game changer, unless you constantly need the reach, and then I would be carefully looking at real world results from the 7D2.

I agree with RD. I've had my 6D for over a year now. I thought I keep using the 60D for regular stuff. Nope. It is relegated to those days when I am shooting grandchildren's athletics with the 70-200 OS. In good light I can use the 6D/100-400L. I like the extra reach of the 60D, and for what it sells for used today, I'm just going to keep it. I think if I bought a 300 4 or a 120-300 2.8, I finally let go of the 60D.

I went from a 7D to the 5D mk iii. I am happy with my decision, but now my 7D is just collecting dust. The 5D mk iii is a great camera and you would not be disappointed. I have never used the 6D, but have seen the great results it can produce. Go with what you want and can afford.

I'd recommend the 6D. I own them both and the 5D3 has only marginally better AF.

I'm gonna be real. I own a 6D. I'm starting to become extremely unhappy with the autofocus for my kind of work--portraiture. The AF sucks. It sucks really badly. I'm buying a 5D3 soon because of this. Get the 5D3 and you'll be happy.

For me, I think the 5d mark 3. Because simply a no compromise camera. It has everything you want in a camera. Built quality, weather sealing, auto focusing, and the mag. alloy feel so nice in your hands. Only downfalls I see when I had two mark 3s was the weight, but that is what the gym is for right? And the low light extent. That's where the 6d shines more, but you can compensate with skills and lights. If the wifi/gps matters to you then you already decided. I tested both cameras locally then I decided with my girlfriend which camera to get. So I bought 2 5d mark 3. I am very happy with my decision and never looked back.

If you want to shoot with two cameras for different applications, then the 6D 7D combo will be good.

If however you;d like one camera that does it all, then I'd get the 5D3. Your 7D will be relegated to back up in nearly all situations.

^^ OP, the latter of what Mr. Hegnauer said is what I'd recommend.
