:)Yes i know this is a Canon forum & i have the SX50,,but looking at buying one of these new Super zooms,,IR gave the ribbon,to the Nikon.?? but is the Canon worth $150 more than the Nikon,,from what i read i think my next superzoom will be the P600 ??would like your thoughts..
I have had several long zooms ,Panny FZ15,FZ30,FZ40,,Canon S3is,SX50..so I like them and know they have limits..

Like you, I have the SX50 (after owning most of the SX series before it) and so have looking carefully and with interest at the specs and reviews of the SX60.

The Nikon P600 apparently doesn't have RAW so that rules it out right away for me, and there are several things that lead me to think Canon has screwed up with the SX60. At least one review said tests showed IQ was poor compared to the SX50 and other superzooms. Then they have replaced the ISO button with a WiFi function - bad idea. Finally, although there is a little wheel (called the "front dial") added on top, it apparently just allows one to jump between images on playback instead of using it for a useful shooting function.

So I'm keeping my SX50, thank you Canon!

Depending upon which mode you are in the front dial is used to change the shutter speed or aperture, ISO or exposure compensation and I think it's an improvement on the SX50 thumbwheel. That said, the SX60 doesn't seem up to the mark IMO. I waited patiently for this model to be released but I've decided it's not for me.

I wanted the long super-zoom offered by the SX60, so I bought one. After working with it for one day (and getting some pretty good pictures at 1360mm) I made the tough decision to return it and purchase a reconditioned SX50 directly from Canon. Now I'm happy.
Maybe if enough people make enough noise about the shortcomings of the SX60, Canon will give it an update...

That would certainly be a good idea, but since none of the local stores have the SX60 yet, I got my info from the manual I downloaded from Canon's site. The little wheel they call the "front dial" is located on top between the mode dial and the zoom ring, and when I search through the manual I can find no mention of it except for use in scrolling through images on playback.

Maybe someone who has already got the SX60 can settle the matter?

Thanks for the info. Not owning the camera, indeed I didn't read the manual all the way through but just searched for the words "front dial", which I now see is shown by an icon in various places, not by words. I'm glad to see that it is in fact a very useful addition that the SX50 doesn't have - but I still think I'll stick with my SX50.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I can remotely control my SX60 with my phone, including remote view with zoom and capture.
