So...a 5D mk IV?

Canon would probably never give the 6D those features as it would cannibalize the 5D and 1D market to much. The 6D will always be a few steps behind in the AF/FPS department from the higher end XD cameras as Canon is well aware that people are willing to pay a lot of money for those features. The 6D has a less advanced (other than center point sensitivity) AF system than even the 70D. I would like them to punch it up to a better system, but I don't think you are going see the 60+ all cross type reticular AF sensor in there soon. (could be wrong...and it would be awesome...)

Wow, are you reading my mind?!?

How do you know it is a solid deal?

Because I read the terms...

If you have a picture with all the meta-data, I'm sure I remember reading if someone posts a picture online using your 6D, there is software to alert you. Hopefully someone can step in and elaborate for me as I'm not 100% on the details.......

Sorry you got stiffed, hope they get what's coming to them :(

Sorry to hear it all and been there, done that...

When you get used to good stuff, its really hard to go back to something of lower quality and 6D is really here to prove the point.

When introduced, 6D was light years ahead of its cousins. Truly what else (In usefulness name sake) can Canon add to it, even if Mk II was to show up today afternoon except marketing face lift? So I don't really think you should go for anything different specially lower end cameras or wait, specially if 6D is in any way connected to your generation of income.

Price of 6D has dropped significantly these days and for the first time I am seeing new ones on sale for less that $1399. Go for another one. The moment new one showed up on the shelf, sell this one for whatever you get and move from there. Learn from you experience and it could be a lot more costly, so might have even saved big time, at the end.

yea, this was indeed an expensive lesson which i'll remember...and also, the thief left my 70-200 f2.8 alone(it was attached to the 6D) so i suppose it could indeed have been more costly. the bastard probably found it too big and heavy to steal.

Sorry you got stiffed, hope they get what's coming to them :(

.

Yup, i hope for that every morning. it's the first thing i do nowadays.

And, thank you everyone for your support and input. Someone mentioned an online alert thing? I think that's lenstag. i just heard about it last night from a friend, but i don't hold much hope for it

Some of you have mentioned about using flash. Yes, i've been using that with the 650D for a long time. But certain shots(especially when its specifically set up) just look better in ambient~ and not just for events too - concept shots with glow-in-the-dark paint would be nice with the high iso...well, guess i'll have to postpone that idea until i get another full frame...

And last but not least, i am not a full time professional - i'm a college student covering events on the side...so yea this'll take me pretty long to recover from =/

At a whopping $60 a year for around $3000 worth of protection, I say it's a pretty solid deal ;)

Who do you get your insurance from, if you don't mind me asking? Quite curious since my Renter's Insurance doesn't cover my equipment and need someone I can go through who isn't a scam.

You learned the lesson. Grab another camera and get back to shooting! I don't know how people live with themselves doing this kind of thing

USAA. If you can get insured by them, do it. They're a fantastic company, I've had nothing but positive experiences with them and my rates are great, I use them for everything.

The big question isn't to wait for the 6D Mkii but whether to buy the 6D now or wait until Black Friday or cyber week. I'm struggling with this decision now.

The best we'll see in a 6D2 is incremental AF improvement, slightly faster buffer, faster flash sync, maybe better auto ISO, hopefully better weather sealing and possibly more mp or new sensor. Canon doesn't have a lot of room before reaching the product's current ceiling.

that's true! the 6D is already a beast...the only things i'm missing are a tilting screen and a built-in flash anyway(forgive me, since i'm still stuck with a 650D ) but those aren't really essential. not much hope for faster fps in the mkii either

Here's a deal (external link) that appeared around Black Friday 2013.

Possibly something similar or slightly better? Who knows. But I don't see the 6D mkii for at least another year to 18-months.

I'm so very sorry to hear that.
And if storing or in your car, always put it in the trunk.

The trunk is more secure from prying eyes but it's also in the crumple zone of the car. If you have even a minor accident, the camera may be a casualty. It is also useless to open the trunk and move the camera to it and then leave the car alone. Trunks are pretty easy to get into if a thief knows something is there.

If your car has a dark interior, a dark bag and darkly tinted windows can be very useful.
