Having shot with a Fuji the last few years I was pretty happy with the SOOC JPG quality and could easily figure out what images might be worth doing some post processing on.

I've had my 60D for a few weeks now and I find when I upload the images that the quality SOOC seems to really suck. Often times when looking at the image in Zoombrowser I have a hard time figuring out if anything is even in focus as the whole image is flat.

It's not until I go in, make some adjustments to levels, curves and run a high pass filter over it that I can determine if it's worth keeping or not.

I have the Picture Style set to Standard which might be part of the problem.

Does anyone else have this issue? Can you recommend custom Picture Style settings?

If you post a couple of examples, people might have a better idea on how to help you.

You can tweak the jpeg settings in camera. You can also shoot raw + jpeg so you have the processed version of the jpeg coming from the camera, plus a negative.

Fuji are known for producing great jpeg images out of the camera, but with most DLSRs you have to process them to get them to where you want them. If you don't want to do that then you might look into a high end point and shoot.

Or switch to Nikon. No questions about what's in focus, what's in focus is what you focus on.

OK so that should be fairly easy for you to check. Simply take a bunch of test shots of the same subjects using all the different picture styles.

A Picture Style is a package deal; a camera profile generic to the model that determines the basic rendering of colors during the transition from raw capture data to jpg plus edits to the basic image regarding contrast, saturation and sharpening. Each Picture Style has its own default values for these latter three parameters, but they can be changed in the camera settings if they don't suit you - although, of course, not to the extent that they can be manipulated in any computer processing of Raw to jpg, which is the main reason why most advanced photographers prefer to roll their own whenever possible.

After years of Canon focus issues going Nikon was the best decision I ever made.
