I've been wanting to buy a macro lens ever since I joined this thread! I would like the 100L but like you I'm not sure I would use it enough. I do always get the shot that I'm after with the lenses that I have though and if I have to I will also use my old Powershot as it has a macro mode. :)

My wife's uncle visited once with his 100L and extension tubes. Since getting a shot that day I've always been tempted. I keep meaning to research a cheap legacy option I can use with my a7r

Eddie, you might want to try your 135L + extension tube. I hope no one minds, but here's a figurine I shot using my 70-200 f4 + extension tube mounted on my Sony a7r with the Metabones adapter.

Thanks gene I hadn't even considered that. I had wondered previously if I could use a (mind blank!! Macro filter attachment that you add to the end of a lens, name completely deserted me at the moment) with the 135 but never got a difinitive answer on vignetting. From memory it was a 49mm thread

Sorry for de-railing the thread everyone

Raynox!!

Turns out you can https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=840076

Good thing about the a7r is that it has plenty of pixels to allow cropping. Looks like I'm buying a raynox then :)

I have a Raynox as I was in the same boat. Did not know if I would use it enough to justify buying one. Now, I want one....LOL

With the Raynox is is mandatory to use a tripod as the shallow DOF is a hinderant in that you have to use an f stop of around f16 to f20 to get a good photo. Also, make sure to get the one that will fit the lens you will use it for. I don't think they have anything for "big" lenses . I have the Raynox 250 and it fits my 70-200 f4 L nicely. It has 67mm glass but will not fit my 70-200 f2.8 L as it has 77mm glass

I do really like it though. I can put it in my bag and it does not take up the space like an extra lens would. I can have two lenses for the space of one

Here is one borrowed (sorry)

It is 8pm EST here in the US and was bored. Set the flash on the window ledge outside and fired inward through the blinds.

Pete, love the parallel lines disappearing into the darkness. Both the lane lines and brick mortar lines worked well for that.

EBGirl, I also liked the parallel lines of the fence fading off into the distance as well. I wonder what the fence was protecting?

It was along a trail in Big Basin, protecting nature from us humans. :D

Then the fence was being put to very good use indeed.
