Ouch, it is £1999 in UK (Park Cameras)

I might keep my pre-order of the Sigma 150-600 after all

As usual, Canon Europe has better information than we have in the States: http://cpn.canon-europe.com …00mm_f45_56l_is_ii_usm.do (external link)

That's the special price that includes the idiot tax. The only people who will pay that price are those who simply must have the new shiny toy NOW! In a few months time us normal people will be able to get it for around £1500.

Just look at the various 70-200 lenses £RRP vs £Actual

f2.8 £1540 - £1020 (33% discount)
f2.8 IS II £2800 - £1700 (39% discount).
f4 £790 - £495 (33% discount)
f4 IS £1450 - £960 (33% discount)

It is also dust and weather sealed.

Yeah.....

But I bet the manual still says that it's drip and dust resistant.

I would love to pre-order this one, but I would have no use for it this winter... I wouldn't mind having it along with my 70-200 II and 300 II :D

I am hoping by next spring when I would want to pick it up, the street price drops a few hundred on it and can pick it up for under $2,000.

Unless of course a new 35L comes out, then that gets higher priority!

I have the 70-300L and would love a 400 that can use an extender. Was hoping for a new version of the 400 5.6L prime but maybe that is not planned. Only reason to purchase this 100-400 is to get the 400 length so guess I will pass on this lens.

Remember though that Jessops price will include 20% VAT, whereas B&H will not include any sales tax.

At an exchange rate of 1.6, that makes the US price with VAT added around £1650.
So the UK still pays a premium, but it isn't that bad.
The UK street price will likely have fallen to £1650 by next summer.
And it will probably be available in their next summer cash back promotion with £100 off.
So just be patient...

I will be patient, as I was with the 5D3, and you are right, give it a good 6-9 months.
Also I will see what the grey importers do.

Basically, when light enters a lens, it slows down as it passes from the air through the glass. This slowing down in speed is what causes reflections and flare, causing problems such as ghosting and contrast degradation.

Er, run that one by me again.

I'll will be most interested in seeing a comparison of the new 100-400 to the 70-200 mkII with the 2X mkIII teleconverter.

Frank, surely in your days as a spectroscopist, you must have heard about the obscure photon Cerenkov radiation, where a photon gives off energy as it briefly exceeds the speed of light in that medium! ;)

What will be very interesting is to see how well this compares with the 400 f5.6 prime. I'll bet large sums of money that a lot of people still claim the prime is sharper (despite the counter-claims from those that believed the old zoom could be sharper - if you got a 'good' copy).

I've ordered from Amazon, Adorama and B&H. I rarely see people mention ordering from Amazon....why is that? Is there a benefit to ordering from Adorama?

I am about to preorder this lens with someone and was just curious.

Sweet looking lens. Love the design, but can't afford the $$. Somebody want to sell me their version one cheap?
