I was asked by some family friends to shoot their daughters senior portraits. I shoot causally and mostly landscape stuff. This was also my first time using flash so I was learning on the fly. All C&C welcome as I would love to become more profeciant at shooting portraits. (Oh and her left eye squints all the time when she smiles) Thanks

Great start! My main concern is the white balance varies from picture to picture. Also there could be more lighting on her face in the second and last picture. I'd like to see some varied expressions on her face, as all of these she has the same look. Overall good first shoot though! Can't wait to see more.

Not a bad job, definitely need to address the white balance shifts. Where you shooting auto white balance? If shooting raw, and using flash pick a standard white balance that most matches the scene, this can then be tweaked in post. Or use a custom white balance :)

Thank you all for the feedback. I have a feeling the white balance is a product of me sucking at PP. I have not established a flow so everything come out a bit different. I used a gray card for some of the shots but I was not to thrilled with the WB it chose in PP so I either warmed the picture up a bit or cooled it down. I will work on the consistency next time. I might have a couple more gigs coming up.

Your first time using flash? Wow, the force is strong with this one! Aside from the WB, they look great. #2 probably has the most potential for improvement if her face could be evenly lit. Thats' my two cents.

Why is this important pls? (Given wb can be changed in pp). Excuse the ignorance. ..

If you present a set of images then variations in WB or exposure stand out - it looks more professional if they are all similar in processing. Normally easy enough if using RAW as you can copy and paste settings in DPP or LR.

I just leave WB on auto and process RAW later.

Nice shots, warming up the second pic to match closer to the other pics would be the easiest change and biggest improvement.

Consistency :) If you are having colour shifts all over the place, it just makes life easier in post to correct white balance, specially if you are working on multiple images.
