Ok after seeing the specs for the new 30D I thought I would be the first to ask when they plan to release the 40D, the TRUE upgrade to the 20D. My guess is that the 40D will be similar to the 5D and will be released either in late 2007 or early 2008.

(yeah I am disappointed with the 30D, guess I'll have to wait till 07 or 08)

There has to be another camera coming out soon, I think the 30D was to tide us over... while they make the 20D's upgrade.

I bet they release something AT PMA. :D

You can dream anyways right? I'm just looking for something to really put the stake through the heart of the 20D and drive those prices down so I dont feel so bad spending the money to buy one. :)

My complete and utter guess would be that we won't see much in the line of megapixel upgrades until they develop the next generation digic processor.

And even then the MP may not go up so much as the ISO.

Who needs more megapixels? I'd rather have things like ISO in the viewfinder and true spot metering on any successor of my beloved 20D.

Guys, get over it; the 30d is the 20d "upgrade." Assuming upgrade equals same camera, but improved. There will however be a new camera made to sell at the 2k price point, that will compete directly with the d200. I'm just not sure if it will be the most expensive 1.6 crop camera or the least expensive full frame... Probably the most expensive 1.6 crop.

The 30D is basically a FIXED 20D.

Exactly my feelings on the 30D.

Well actually I think the 30D is a "Shut up and wait for it" camera from Canon. Meaning they've heard everyone asking when, so they released an advanced 20D call a 30D to shut those up always asking about when there will be a replacement. Makes sense I think.

The 40D will be the replacement to the 20D but the 30D is just an upgrade.

They've got to come out with something better than this 30D. I mean, common, they can't let Nikon beat them with their D200.... I was really hoping to see canon squash nikon with this new release of theirs. Utter dissapointment.... :-(

Its the 5D's fault. They probably wont release a rival to the D200 until about a year from now. Because really? Why would someone spend say $4000 on a 5D when a 40D would be almost the same quality and make except not having a full frame? I know I wouldn't since the difference would be $2000 and probably few would, which would virtually kill the 5D (which I would buy in a heart beat if I could afford it!)

Yunno, I thought the same thing for awhile until I started thinking about my lenses. Right now, I've got a Promaster 28-105, which WOULD work (although not worthy in terms of quality), but then I've got a EF-S 18-55mm, and I'm about to buy a EF-S 10-22mm. So if I bought the 5D, I'd have to get a few new lenses and ditch the EF-S ones.. :(

Couldn't we just take all the stuff that every one predicted about the 30D and was WRONG and paste it into this thread?

Why start new ?
