Adobe Lightroom 6 (March 2015) requiring monthly subscription like CC

I read today that while the Adobe developers have been marketing Adobe Lightroom as a stand alone package for versions 1 through 5, they are reportedly doing something different with Lightroom 6. Apparently, Adobe Systems is planning to introduce Lightroom 6 with a payment plan where users will only have to pay $10 a month to use the software.

Since this is similar to Adobe CC, does anyone know if there is any way we can make a request to Adobe to not do this with Lightroom 6, and keep it as a stand-alone product like Capture One?

Wow that article is so generic and factually wrong in places, it makes me wonder if it was written by a robot scraping the Internet.

I really can't see them converting Lightroom to a subscription only service. There simply isn't enough to it to warrant such a move. It is already a super cheap bit of software, and has next to no barrier to entry. I expect that they will continue to offer Photoshop+Lightroom bundle for $10 a month, but I doubt it is very likely to be dropped as a standalone package sold as a retail box anytime soon. (They might drop physical packaging, and go with just direct download, but that is no different from the copy of LR4 I already own.)

I would be very surprised to see them go back on the earlier announcement that LR is remaining with the option to buy it outright rather than having to go with a subscription package. At least for a few more versions. If they don't then they're just undermining their reliability, and I really can't see their PR people wanting to take that kind of a risk. They've gotten enough backlash and mud thrown at them over their cloud transition as it is.

Maybe not subscription only to LR alone but I can easily see LR6 being part of the CC package only so the $10 a month would include both PS and LR.

Yes, but LR is also a standalone product. I can see them dropping the standalone version and go subscription only. That's not so far fetched.

I don't know about that given the popularity of LR. Interesting to see where Adobe heads and if they will have to change directions.

You seem to contradict yourself, unless what you're trying to say is that you think that Lr will only be available as a subscription as part of the Photography CC deal.

Yes.I can see LR becoming part of the PS/LR package only and LR6 not released as a standalone product. Then the $10 would make sense as that is what is already offered.

You missed the key word which eliminates the contradiction:

Maybe not subscription only to LR alone

I would have thought that's exactly the reason behind it.

Just like a drug dealer, get you hooked then you pay for your monthly fix

Given how cheaply full lightroom has been available via sale prices I don't see $10 a month being a viable price point. They eould be kivking the door open for a competitor to steal market share.
