OK, if not the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS macro lens for the 6D, which other macro lens?
I had the Canon non L EF 100mm f.2.8 awhile ago but sold it off, pre 6D, due to not using it as much as the 60mm.
I'm open to suggestions from those who have them, macro lenses of other brands.
I have a Canon EF-S 60mm that I use on my 40D but obviously it won't work on the 6D.

Thanks

Go for the Tamron 90mm f/2.8. It's an excellent lens but with slow and noisy focusing. However, in terms of sharpness, it's right there with the L if not sharper.

I am extremely happy with my Sigma 105 HSM OS. Sharp and well built with image stablization at a great price.

6D, 5D, 7Dii, Eos R and too many lenses, flashes and aux. gear to list!

I think it will!
I don't have the 6D but I used the 60mm Canon macro quite successfully on my (then) Canon 1D4. I used a 13mm extension tune and everything worked just fine + images were great. I think a 20/21mm extension tube would do the job for full frame.
With the extension tube I lost infinity focus (hardly an issue for macro!) but AF and metering were just the same as normal.
Grab a cheapie set of AF extension tubes (they are always useful) - make sure they will work with both EF and EFS mounts (most do) and give it a try.
The EFS 60mm Macro is a fine lens that will work well with larger sensors though I must admit that I prefer my Canon 100 F2.8 (non L) macro on any format.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

Not real sure I want slow and noisy focusing but I'll take a look.

I bought a 60mm macro for my 60D years ago. I had the 100 non-L and sold it. I much prefer the 60 on crop to the 100 on full-frame, for macro stuff.

I have used the older non-usm 100 Canon macro, the 60mm EF-S macro, he USM 100 macro and the 100L. I enjoyed the larger working-distance for living subjects VS the 60mm lens.
I chose the 100L because 99% of my shots, whether macro or not with the lens, are hand held.
The IS allows me to use a large DOF at the same SS, using a bright flash with diffuser.
I tested the 100mm USM and the 100L side by side before selling the USM.

I share my experiences and opinion only on lenses I have used myself.

Tamron 90mm VC lens is just as good as Canon's L optically... If not better. Can be picked up for a solid price on the secondary market.

I prefer my 100mm on a crop sensor better than on full frame. It works well but the angle of view is substantially wider on full frame. Given that, I would personally look at the 180L or maybe a Sigma 150 or 180, only because I like the 160mm equivalent field of view

Let's throw the Canon 24-70 f/4L IS into the mix! Great multipurpose lens.

For what it's worth - I got a Tamron 180mm, which I used with my 6D. From what I understand, the field of view is the same as with Tamron 90mm, except you do not need to be as close.

Before getting Tamron 180mm, I had the chance to play with both 90 and 180mm on a sunny day outside. As a result, I opted for the 180mm. Here are a couple of samples:

90mm on 6D

But yeah, I too prefer the 180mm on a crop sensor for greater proximity @ 100%.

180mm on a 50D:

I had the non L 100 paired with my 6d and it was an awesome setup. I'm just not much of a macro guy and didn't find myself using this focal length much for non-macro shots. Before I got my 85L I would use the 100 macro for portraits as well. A close second to the 85L as the sharpest lens I have owned.

What do you want to photograph? I have a 50 mm Sigma macro lens and the Canon 100 non-L. If you preferred the 60 on your crop, the 100 will give you a similar view on full frame. The Canon macro lenses in this focal length are very sharp. I like mine very much. If you want IS, then go for the L.
