"OK, if not the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS macro lens for the 6D, which other macro lens?"

Is this a price issue? I'm just wondering why this is off the table of consideration? You can find them for around $800 which is really a steal for a very versatile lens. I really love mine. Extremely sharp, light weight, f2.8 and IS. What's not to love?

There are no bad macro lenses. Unlike some zoom lenses that can vary widely in quality macro lenses are all good. I used to shoot with a Tamron 90mm macro and the older non IS version of the Canon macro. I now shoot with the Canon 100mm IS and also the Canon 180mm. Some of my friends use the Sigma 105mm, 150mm and 180mm. They are all excellent. You just have to decide which focal length is more to your liking and which lens fits you budget.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I'm actually a brand specific person so I'm leaning heavily toward the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 L IS. I like the Canon IS feature.
For now I'll stick w/my 40D and the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 macro lens. I've had very good results with that combo.

I'm with FarmerTed and others - love it.

I went back and forth for quite a while on L or non-L, Canon or others. The excellent results and reviews could not be denied with Canon, and I justified the additional incremental cost because one macro lens (as a hobby photographer) is likely all I will ever need. Buy the best and never look back.

Tamron 90mm VC lens is just as good as Canon's L optically... If not better. Can be picked up for a solid price on the secondary market.

agree.
