So is the repaired camera on its way home? And they still lectured you? Or, is it the returned camera not working as you describe?

I had two choices: get the body back now (no repair done) or send in one of the 6 L-lenses that it didn't work with. Sending in a lens today I guess

Send it in with pictures to back up your statements. That's what I did and it got the message across pretty quick.

Now, I admittedly, don't know much about hockey, but I would think 1/1000 might be a little slow, especially given the camera in discussion. Are your pics completely OOF or could you be seeing some motion blur coming in? Also, and I have said this before, what works on my 1Dx DOES NOT work on the 7d2 in the same manner. Same would be true for your 5d3 - just because it works there doesn't mean it works on the new body.

Just thoughts. Not saying you did anything wrong, but throwing some things out there to try and help.

I sent in both cards used, RAW on the CF and JPG on the SD. No motion blur at all. I can actually see a frozen, OOF puck in the air after a shot. He even suggested that I switch from AI Servo to One Shot when the players stop moving, then back to Servo when they move again. Unbelievable.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone

If I got that crap, I would just send it back and get a 100% refund.
When Canon get 10,000 returned and have to check them out and refurb them and lose their margin , they will start QAing them properly before shipping.
If also we all boycotted their refurb program on the 7DII ( pretty sensible - as many will be rejects that cant AF! ) then it will really hurt their pocket!
Then they will sort the issue.

If you have a 5DIII and a 70-200F2.8L II , I Think its highly probable you know how to work the the AF System.
This is just the reason I now never diviate from my buying policy. If it aint perfect, it goes back for a brand new replacement or a refund!
I Wouldnt dream about getting them to "mend" a new product. :-/

I'm with you there...now... Any idea on the return window? Mine was shipped on Hallowe'en, the release date here.
Jeff

Comparison of 5D MK3 with 7D MK2 may not be right. 7D MK2 has more than double pixel density than 5D MK3. That will play the role and challenges in the accuracy in certain situations.

He told me that the two bodies had different AF systems. DUH. I replied "What's the difference? One focuses, the other doesn't?" I'm not trying to be pompous, but I kinda know how to focus a camera. One would think that the newer systems would focus easier and faster. Yes, driving a Ferrari after a Honda takes some practice, but when you already have a Corvette, it shouldn't be leaps and bounds.

When I get home this evening, I'll post some shots taken from DPP so the AF point will be visible.

So ridiculous. If I were in your shoes, I would demand a refund. Sending the lenses in is at this point passing the buck so to speak. Not rubbing salt in your wounds, but this really is why I never buy new releases. There is definitely a qc problem with the 70d and 7dii bodies. Some folks have been through 4 bodies to get a good one. You guys have patience that I don't.

Now you've got me thinking. I really want to dump it, but I have no idea what the return window is. I'm at about 110 days now. I wish I was more of a complainer and dealt with it sooner. I can't even sell it on eBay, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

My logic is this: do you really want a tech that is denying a problem with the body you sent in, to start darting around with lenses you know work?

The systems between my 1Dx and the 7D2 are different and react differently. I can only imagine you would have a bigger difference. It is a noticeable difference.

Good point, but at Canon Service there are so many techs that you will have a different one each time.

The corollary is that each guy has to read all the notes over again. -?

I just received my 7dii from Newegg yesterday. Took it out at lunchtime on the job today. I was hoping that waiting a few months to order would blow the crappy versions (not that I have any way of knowing if mine is an early batch or was manuafactured last week) out of the water. Nope.

Single shot - tack sharp
AI Servo - blurry blurry blurry

So disappointing. I'm conflicted as to whether or not to go back to Newegg or to go to Canon. I picked multiple subject and multiple settings. Something is definitely amiss with the AI Servo in mine and I've had a 7D prior to this, so while the AF system is "new", it should not be so new that AI Servo would have trouble focusing on a license plate on a parked car when single shot takes the picture perfectly. So disappointing.

Once you decide to keep this, it becomes your problem. Some folks have been dealing with this for months. Some wth resolution, some without. I would send it back and either try again, or consider a different body. My personality would keep me totally away from this model, and also the 70d.

Just got my RMA for return, getting nothing but soft and out of focus images...grrrr. Really had high hopes for this camera. Don't need or want the headache of exchanging body after body after body. Good luck to rest of you.

It has been said that the 7dii requires longer tracking acquisition and should aim for up to a second prior to shutter release after you start tracking. . How long did you hold on license plate as a reference with ai servo? Also, don't let anyone convince you that ai servo can't /shouldn't be used for static objects. . One thing to check though is you first and second shutter priority- and set to focus not release.

I played with it quite a bit. Long hold. Short hold. Single shot in AI Servo. Burst in AI Servo. Long burst in AI Servo. I did play with first and second priorities on the 7D and that's a good idea. I will play with that tonight. Thanks for the idea.
