Use a CF card instead. Instructions said to make sure camera is not in M.

Make sure you format card in camera and then copy firmware file to ROOT of memory card, do not put in DCIM folder ect.

I had to do this...I was in M so I changed it to P then I had to use a CF card and drag the firmware file into the card but not into either of the 2 folders. Once I did that the update took about 2 minutes

Some folks must have slow cameras as this took my camera only 2 or 3 min. max to upload. Now to see if it changes anything.

I set my drive to 6fps to see if I can get more in focus images as some suggested. Has anyone found a difference with 6 or 7 fps compared to the 10 fps and any difference between 6 or 7 with respect to in focus images?

8 fps v 10 fps made no diference for me.

New firmware "might" have improved the 70-200. Hard to tell with photos of people walking around the street. Will know more after it's used in anger on the weekend.

I also found that in AI servo 4 point expansion on a non moving item it is tack sharp. So not sure unless I had the wrong case number why they would not be sharp when moving. I am trying the IS off with the high shutter speeds and case 1

I think it doesn't matter how long it take for firmware update, whether that be 2 minutes or 5 minutes. The real problem is, if the new firmware very fix the AF issue isn't that mean we all have to redo AFMA again for all the lens, which will take hours?

Same here I didn't see a difference even in single shot it's the same.
For me I don't see this firmware doing anything to fix the AF issues. Going to try it out one more time after work I'm going to bring my 7D and try to duplicate the shots, but I think this ones going back too, this is really frustrating.
John.

That is the thing. No one knows for sure because there was not (as expected) a formal announcement about general focus. Canon Rumors got the FW update right but the claim about general AF issue was off. Seems like just a fix for the 70-200 2.8 II in the 100mm range.

I wonder how they figured this out? How many lenses and focal lengths are there out there? The technicians - 98mm - can you hear me now? 99mm - can you hear me now? :p I don't remember reading specific complaints about it.

A member at FM stated that it made a huge difference on both single and AI Servo but I'm waiting to see more reports because it is far too early. I still can't see how a FW update corrects mirror box and AF sensors that are being replaced.

I uploaded USA site update last night. I don't expect any huge changes and I'm pretty happy with whatever Canon did to it. I don't expect any worse. I don't do a lot of MFA so I don't have to redo anything. Once the dust settles I'll play around with Focal since I payed for it.

I've heard a rumor that the 7Dmk3 will have "a game changing AF system" :p

I tried this just now and I think it helps. At 10 fps, my AIS and 65 points seems to have a mind of its own, seldom do the preferred focus points light up, just seemingly random others (nothing there but blue sky). At 8 fps, it seems to follow the bird or birds better, that is, the focus points on the bird are the active ones. I am back to Case 1. This is a preliminary conclusion. I can't imagine this firmware update fixing my problem. I plan to send it in after spring migration is over. Center point, single shot seems to work well. I bought early with the 40D and 50D (no problems) and now the 7Dii. Never again.

Do I have something set wrong? I noticed today while I was shooting a Canada Goose on the lake it was moving slow and was pretty close I back button focused on its head and it looked like it focused OK while I was doing this I half pressed the shutter button getting ready to take the shot and it lost focus and didn't seem to want to refocus until I let go of the shutter button and back button I then refocused with the back button took the picture and the shot was still out of focus . I did keep the back button pressed while I continued to track the subject and it would not lock on. Anyone experience or notice anything like this. It seemed like the shutter button was interfering with the back button.
Thanks
John
