For those unwilling to chance the firmware update, just be advised that if you decide to reinstall the older firmware version, you can. You just go through the installation process with the old firmware. Basically, nothing to lose...I've done it before just to make sure that it works.

Is the original firmware v1.0.2 out on the net somewhere? Unless I had that file in hand, I am not sure how one would go about reverting to it. In other words ... I don't think Canon has made 1.0.2 available other than shipping with the camera. Apologies if I am wrong on this.

Updated to 1.04 today, gave the camera a good going over in good light and good contrasting subjects . Tried every setting and mode I could think of, all razor sharp.

Took 40 shot burst in AI SERVO on stationary bird, not something I would normally do, all razor sharp which wasn't the case before

Lens used Canon 300mm f/2.8 MK 2 + 1.4 TC

Couldn't fault anything

Same set-up as Chas and the same result, looks like it's sorted my problems :-D

I just updated my firmware from an SD card.

I've always updated via the EOS Utility. Does that still work for the 7DII? I'm shooting an event tomorrow so I'm nervous about upgrading right now.

Yes indeed Neil, I think I can take pics with confidence now, I wouldn't have risked the potential of a "shot of a lifetime " before with the 7D MK 2 always trusting my 1D MK 4 to deliver the goods. I really like new 7D mk2 , I still wouldn't use ISO 2000 or above but in good light it really delivers ߘ

Here is a full walk-through of the menu system of 1.0.4, if anyone wants to see if features have been added/changed:

How is focusing for you?

For those that have updated the FW, did you have to revert your lenses back to "0" as far as maf goes?

Thanks

No, all MFA adjustments remain, no settings on the camera will change.

Thanks, I am aware of that.

I want to know if the FW requires you to have to redo your Maf for each lens.

Thanks

NO, as stated all MICRO FOCUS ADJUSTMENTS remain the same for each individual lens, you do not have to MFA each lens again The MFA lens settings are stored in the camera, updating the FIRMWARE to 1.04 will not change them...............You do not have to revert to "0" for each lens just leave as before

I don't think you are understanding his question. I think he means, if you have MAF'd your lenses and if Canon snuck some unannounced changes into the firmware update to fix some of the focus problems some people were having, will that throw off your present MAF settings and will you have to redo the MAF to new settings for your lenses?

In other words, will your present MAF settings still be good or will you have to change them.

I for one will double check my MAF settings for my lenses.
