your right, but I constantly see post regarding to the speed of a subject when AIServo is in use. Im saying it is for minute adjustment of focus and has nothing to do with a subject going 90mph

Humm, try focusing on something the size of a falcon in a stoop doing in excess of 150mph.

You aren't following what I am saying. Assuming the falcon is diving nearly directly towards you, it is not accelerating or decelerating at more than 3G's is it?

The magic with AI Servo is not how it tracks something moving at a constant speed but how it tracks something that is approaching the camera not only at a high speed, but one that is changing (increasing or decreasing) at a high rate.

OK, I guess I need to try this. Does the active point wander around randomly and you fire when it's right? Wouldn't single point do the same more predictably?

Now to find a moose to practice on

Not arguing with the great shots. What I see is the points moving around until they land where you want it. Works great. I have asked before. Can''t we just do this with single point on something that moves that slowly?

I had some fun using zone when I was birding and want it try it out for sports, etc. I guess I'm old school. For those shots I still prefer single shot or expanded. I can see the benefit that you don't have to move the AF point around but it is pretty easy with the joystick. I suppose if you are in a hurry you ca rattel off a bunch of bursts.

I guess your right we could take the time and fiddle with the camera...which i do regular or we could move forward with the tech and use the multiple points the camera came with

In the end if you can't let go of the idea that you must put that point on his eye you will need to just use spot but your missing a huge part of this camera.

Its true the little peaches of animals in movement can be so fast. Try shooting over 1000lbs at 25 feet while you about lay on the ground trusting he is in a good mood lol ,..and not get some camera shake

O Ya ,...AIServo Case 6 with some tweeks lol ,..centre group ( 15 points )

Some nice meese shots, Jeff.

About as close I could come to that would be to go out to my sister's and take some cow shots. :)

Doc

P.S. And I do know the plural of moose is really moose.

Lol , it sure is interesting living here...I never know what to expect to be shooting. But it is so great to come across something that puts the thrill of shooting in the forefront.

I'm listening totally but don't understand yet. It takes experience and experimenting and good listening to figure it out, because it is a bit complicated and we all are a bit conservative, clinging to old ways. To say nothing of different folks recommending different ways muddying the picture.

I need more experience and testing, will have to work on that.

I hear ya Archibald,...I test nothing, I could spend my time shooting paper or I can go out and have a blast changing settings on the camera while Im standing in front of some of the greatest wildlife on the planet. there's nothing hard about it. there's no setup that is " the one " its all about the fun, forget about the details and photography is super rewarding.

I ...rattled off a few shots of this guy and there all smasher's except the ones that the comp or the head turn on the moose is not to my liking!!

I'm going to goof around more with zone for stills because I had some fun with it birding. It is better than my 7D was.

From the horse's mouth. I guess, in my case, I'm not crazy or responsible for "user error". I just unboxed the return and look forward to trying it out post adjustment.

^^^ I'm still trying to figure out if I'm having similar problems. Some shots I nail eye focus and others, the focus seems to be on breast or back.........front or back focus. Nothing to show a pattern IYKWIM? I'm no spring chicken and I notice just how much my hand wobbles with the 10-400 as opposed to the 70-300 so I don't know if that's my problem?

Missed here?

To bidkiv. I have the EXACT same issue with my 1st and second 7Dmk2 and the 100-400 mk2. Sometimes I swear I nail the focus and other times it seems off. I have afma'd the lens multiple times and sometimes it nails it and other times not so much. How do you add more than two pics?? I only get choice of uploading A and B???

That image (to me) is the "bees feckin' knees" I'm no expert but to see the detail in the whites and the blacks whilst seeing the highlight in the black eye is what I aspire to, having encountered the failures of my attempts so far to record so many black faced/eyed bird in Oz. Whether in camera or PP, it's excellent and has inspired me to achieve better.

Thanks for that. I get lucky sometimes;-)aa - right light and angle and bam. This is one of my favorite birdies and I am constantly trying to capture just what you state. The other thing that really helps is that I shoot RAW and this allows me to correct some of my mistakes.

Again thanks...Al

Nice one Al

Thanks.

I really wish I could get the opportunity to shoot those little foxes and obtain picture perfect images as yours. I have yet to see any little ones in my ventures. I've come across the adults, but no babies. I guess I need to do some homework and put the time in - one day, one day, just so much on my bucket list.;-)a

You can only upload two hosted images to a thread but are allowed to embed up to eight per thread, embedded images are hosted on another server from POTN, ie a flckr account etc.

It is all in the image posting rules in the sticky thread at the start of each forum.

What Lester said. The only reason that I find Flickr convenient...........that, and it's also somewhere that I can store images to recover later if I have a disaster at home.
