Good morning gschlact, as you know the near and super far seemed ok. I tested it before the return to cannon and after using a second 7DII and 100-400LII twice with and without canon 1.4III and with a second 1.4III ( I own two ) I tested both against each other and found mine to be very inferior, I then did a reset removing the batt closing the door and pressing the shutter button to remove any remaining power, reinstalled the batt and leaving all settings at default case 1, no modifications to any setting and compared the two cameras and lens shooting the same abject at the same time really with Identical settings page for page in the menu. settings on each camera were checked to be the exact same, both cameras had full batt's and they were found to be very comparable in image quality and sharpness, I can not say what or how this all came about, I can only tell you what I saw. I am a tech form the past but not of canon camera's so I under stand the apprehension on both sides. I guess thats why when I hear the words test I cringe, in the past for me that meant 10's of hundreds of waisted hour's knowing all the while a board was faulty and needed replacing. I would these days rather have some other tech have to grind through the hours of comparing data. my passion is in the wild life around me. ya I know I have to feed that to the site slowly as well. I may have to invite someone to come with me so they to can post the thousands of image they will get of the red fur. then I can sit back and laugh at the people poking fun at them for a while.

I think now at this point I need a trip back to my little friends and see just how things perform. as everyone knows the real answer is in the images you get in the field not shooting paper

Archibald I'm sure you do,

Enjoy the fresh air.

It's had no discernible effect on mine.

I am still a bit anxious about my camera... it won't show up at the Canon repair center until Wed or Thursday. I know I might be connecting non-existent dots by saying the firmware update has anything to do with the problems I started seeing.

It's just so odd.... nothing changed on my end except that. The beautiful combo of my 7D2 and 100-400ii stopped working. That's all I really know.

So, advice. Is it worth it to try to get a hold of a manager so he/she can assign my camera to one of the senior techs who specialize in the 7D2? It might not even be possible but I'm wondering what happens if the camera goes back and forth a few times. Do things get bumped up the ladder to more senior people when the techs aren't able to get it working properly again after a few tries? If so, can I short cut that process and get it looked at by one of the top people from the beginning?

Any ideas? I don't have a service center anywhere near here. I chose NJ because I have heard better things about it than the one in Virginia... though who knows if that was wise.

Your suggestions would be appreciated, even if you just tell me to calm the *&$% down.

I was speaking to CPS the other night trying to nail down my troubles. Support asked me the question as to the manner in which I mount the lens and TC to the body.

I follow the instructions, but still asked why it mattered.....

He says that when installed in their prescribed manner, the camera reads the lens and TC as one unit instead of reading the TC and then changing things again by reading the lens.

I know how you feel Kim, I know that it looked like in the end I was pulling some kind of scam on everyone but honestly what point would there be to that. The reset on my camera did make a difference right away. And it will all come out in the end. Your missing with a big part of what you do with your life right now and its away's a little unnerving. If only we had a life lol we could just forget about it and move on. well don't worry it will get resolved and you will be shooting again....faster than you think actually. I missed one of if not my favourite time of year with the fall colours and critter's all in a mad dash to put on the lbs before winter making for some great image's. I missed some good stuff but there is always tomorrow.

Here is what my shooting buddy sent me off the back of his camera while I did stuff around the house with my camera 100 miles away.

I much prefer to post great stuff of the animals around my place then go on about a camera..... making these guys wish they had my back yard .....just sayin.

I guess the question is would that matter, I have looked and mine has the correct info and has read the extended and lens no matter which way I put it on. not that Im contradicting what they are saying but in the end it reads both ext and lens correctly. of course you know I'm gona try it both ways just to see

When I get my camera back, I'll try mounting it both ways to see if I can get the 4 point expanded center point to disappear as an option. It might have been a fluke.

Man.... those are some great wolf photographs. I can understand your disappointment. The birds are just starting to show up here for the winter now... so if I can get this fixed in the next month, I'll be happy. I am using my 70D like you were using your 7D 1... and it just isn't the same. I have gotten a couple decent shots but it is a challenge. I am reminded of those who continue to push the theory that the gear doesn't matter... you can get great photographs with a pin hole camera. I do wish they'd try to photograph wildlife in a variety of outdoor settings. ;)

Ha ya funny how the camera does make a huge difference and the theory goes out the window the first time you have to step back in time. but I can say I really like the images of the birds using the 7D.

Well.... I found a way to calm myself down and get the best possible results the first time around: I joined CPS (Canon Professional Services) here in the States. They will be able to handle my repair and get a senior tech to look at it should that be necessary. The turn around time is a bit faster as well.... so I should get my camera back next week if all things go as planned (now, think about it.... how often does That happen over the course of one's life?) ;)

It did fix the no focus at 100mm on the 70-200LII 2.8

Whoa, maybe that's why I had problems this weekend at the football game.
